Makes you wonder where things will be in another 42 years if it continues like that.

Johnny lets fly with a bum trumpet.

2010 - Back in the day when laughter was still allowed, his classmates laugh. Teacher gets the class to settle down and goes on with class.

2042 - The classroom is evacuated, Johnny is charged with "Creating an unpleasant scent" or "Putrefying the air with an anal gas discharge" and sent to prison for a year. Anyone who laughs is sent to see a psychologist over a 6 month period.

Its serious. I went to one of the more terrible high schools in the country. The screenplay for 187 was written by a substitute teacher at my high school.

This one time, I'm sent to the deans office, and there's this guy there holding a bag of ice to the back of his head. I ask him whats up and he says the administration wants to expel him for "being involved in a fight."

Apparently, he was standing around when some guy walked up behind him, and punched him in the back of the head. He goes down to the ground, and I don't recall what happened to the other guy. Somehow administration thinks since he was "involved in a fight" by being punched in the back of the head meant he should be expelled.

The fact that they considered it at all shows how fucktarded the system can get.

I personally had my ass whipped with various paddles that the different principals came up with over the years - especially jr high school.  Went to many different schools as we moved around.

Some fiberglass ones with holes drilled in them were the worse ones.

I was way too willing to go along but at the time folks just didn't.

I was already in danger of getting it from my dad if he found about the school whippings so maybe that helped me accept my punishment.

I got in trouble plenty of times but any physical violence was me punching a bully in the face repeatedly (happened about 3 times, once in elementary school, once in middle, and once in high school) and the bully either stfu and nobody bothered me again or one time the bully went crying to the office and I refused to take any punishment for it. Noncompliance works sometimes :)   The only time I actually got in trouble (and had the police called on me even) was when I was standing up to the tyranny of the school administration. In hindsight, I regret nothing about each time.

My school was nicknamed Suicide High. I'm not totally sure on the stats but I think I remeber hearing it was #1 per capita in suicides nation wide during my sentencing there. It seemed every other week someone was hanging themselves or putting a shotgun in their mouth. Even a decade later, one or two people from that area and age group off themselves. I think there was something in the water.

I was in school in 1958. The only thing I'd change in the story is that it was the vice principal who gave out swats.

I'm sure that in 1958 old folks reminisced about how much better things were in 1928. Every generation figures the current one has gone to hell. I recall reading that Aristotle bemoaned that the invention of reading had ruined kids' ability to remember things.

Midwest? The water thing I have no doubts. People can say what they want about the fluoride conspiracy stuff but when I was growing up in Milwaukee I was only average intelligence at best. Once I moved to Vegas, where at first they did not put fluoride into the water supply but later changed the policy and where second no one drinks the local water as it tastes and smells like shit, my head cleared and I was able to think clearly. I have no doubt in my mind fluoride when ingested does things to people. It fucks up the body's natural chemistry at the cellular level. Depression is a symptom of the body's chemicals being out of whack.
