I will definitely be back to update this thread. It's been a while since I've been around this board ._. admittedly most of my time on the net is spent on facebook, or clicking links on reddit. And now I believe that I've reached a point where I'm going to begin trying to market myself...and that's exciting.
We'll see how it goes. I already sold 3 paintings, and potentially a fourth :)

I currently live with with my parents...outside of Toronto in a "cottage country" type of area, where a lot of rich people live. Pretty soon, when I move back to Toronto, I will have to live with a roommate, cuz the government will only give me just under a $1000/month, which will not be enough for me to live on my own ...while living off the taxpayer's buck, which I am entitled too, cuz ...my medical records show that I have a "disability", and therefore qualify for "Disability Benefits", indefinitely.

The taxes she pays goes to the welfare program you are leeching from. If she didn't have to pay taxes then chances are she would not be going to the food bank. It's people like you who suck the system dry. You want to change things? First off...I am not going to post any art or whatever in that website you provided, because that it not part of my plan, and I think it would be a waste of time. I also question the validity of the website that Baker (The OP) has introduced to us. Maybe in my earlier days as an artist, I would participate in such things, but I know better now. In order to give yerself a chance at making it in the art world, the only way to do it is through creating a normal social network, by going to gallery shows and art parties, dinners, and things like that. It is also a waste of time to send submissions to art galleries, and juried art shows. Some years back, I did manage to get into a respected juried art show, but I have a feeling that I only got in the show because, at the time, I was volunteering at the gallery. The other girls who volunteered got into the show, too. Hmmn.....
I don't know what my "disability" is, but I'm sure that the doctors will give it some clinical name so that I can start living off the tax-payers' buck. Getting the free monies will give me the time to do the required networking if I want to make it as an artist. My Libertarian days are over...I'm just a debauched Libertine bohemian gypsy boy, now. Good for me. I'm not gonna risk my sanity, working some shit job just to show that I am contributing to society. Fuck society. I'll take money from whatever, now....I don't care. I'm also looking into government artist grants. Some of these grants will pay artists $2000/month for 2 years, if the artist can show that he/she is at a "pivotal point" in his/her artistic career!!!! I now realize that I have to hustle. Last year, when I was on Welfare for a half a year, I got a kind of weird pleasure knowing that I was getting free monies from a society that I basically despise. I felt as though receiving my government welfare cheques was like some sort of cosmic retribution. This society has done a good job keeping me down, but I liked getting money from the taxpayer for doing nothing. I want to get on society's nerves...it's about fucking time. I want society to hate me with every hate molecule society has in its body.

I can understand why they'd talk trash. My mom recently ran into a guy who works at a museum over @ Yale while she was crankin' out her shift. She had the opportunity to chat with him, and ended up showing him some of my work on facebook. When she told him I was selling them like I was, he said I should really get in touch with some galleries, and curators...whatev.
Which is sensible, and I would really like to do that as well. However; sometimes opportunities pop up, and you reach a fork in the road of your life where you can take one direction or the other. I have a friend in Milwaukee who is about to relocate to San Diego. One way ticket: Selling his car. Furniture. Everything.
I've known him since high school, and we are both pursuing artistic ambitions. He invited me to come out and crash it with him a few months ago. It was random. I thought he meant on vacation. When he said he was going out to live there, I laughed and declined, but I have seriously been considering it since then. I've been attempting to transfer my position to Wal Mart store in that area. I told him when he gets out there and finds a place; I'll do everything I and to follow him out.
As ridiculous as it might sound; it just feels right on a cosmic level.
What you said Rich: I gotta get myself out to a metro; but I need roomies. And here it is--though I'd in all honestly rather book it to Brooklyn.
But San Diego seems to be nice.

In the Welfare world...I'm a fucking god! When I was on Welfare, my caseworkers found me refreshing, cuz I wouldn't give them any trouble, and I was always very organized ...and stuff. One of my caseworkers gave me an extra thousand dollars...even though I told her that I didn't need it!
On a daily basis, these welfare workers have to deal with the lowest of the low, and I feel sorry for the people who have to do that job. So...the welfare people love me because I am so nice and organized, and things.

Add a short bio, pack it all up with a cover letter and send it out all over. From what I know of the sculpture scene, you're likely to receive a lot of rejections before you get a couple invites to show your stuff. But once you're recognized and if enough people like your stuff, you may get commissions.

The reality is that I need to take a break from work, and recover from a nervous breakdown I had a year and a half ago. I can tell that I am not ready to go back to work, and if I were to start working again, it would only make things worse for me. I even went back to work in the fall of last year, but had to quit 3 months into the job, cuz I recognized that I was in no condition to work.
This has been an ongoing problem for me for many years, and now I have decided that I should go see a bunch of doctors to figure out the best way to deal with my situation. It also means that I am eligible to receive $1000/month from the government so that I don't have to live with my parents, and do my own shit back in Toronto.
I have no idea how long it will be before I go back to work....that is something the doctors and I will have to figure out. But I am not going to risk another breakdown in the name of some bullshit WASP "work ethic".

Oh, yes indeed I have :) I find that there are some pretty sweet sites that offer flash based display, which is appealing. But I'd want to take the time to make it look good, and in the back of my head, I always knew I'd want an accumulation of work to start out with--and as I'm sure you've seen, I'm about at that point now.
Just a few short hours ago, I launched about a'score of invites to follow my own 'public figure' deal on fb...and that's a start. I feel relatively accomplished right now. It's like I took a year off school and to just work on developing style and getting comfortable with technique and media.
I think perhaps if/when I ever make it out to California, and have a bit of a layover in being able to produce physical art--then at that point I might find myself working on the old drawing pad with some concepts for templates and themes, and really start to get the ball rollin'
We'll See...I think even though I might stumble into a few dead ends, I'll prob'ly be movin' on up in the long run.

My friends idea. He's in Milwaukee. He told me he finally snapped this winter; couldn't take another season, and set his eyes of SD. He's going down there with his current room mate. I've known him since high school. Good friend. fellow artist who also happens to write. I think there's strong potential for us to flow well together, and push each other creatively.
So he texted me in like April or May, asking if I was interested in heading out there. I thought he meant on vacation; I laughed when he was wondering if I wanted to relocate.
then a few weeks later it hit me: I not only feel a desire, but an urge to live in a large metro-area; and there was no good reason to pass up the opportunity. I have no hangups whatsoever keeping me here in CT w/ the rents--why not? So I texted him back with a simple; "San Diego. Tell me more."
I've been dead set on getting there since then. Pretty sure I might have secured a job-transfer through the company I work with too :)
Just gotta get my manager to call up their personnel dept. with a strong recommendation ;)
