Ron Paul's LPAC Announces Presidents' Day Money Bomb
« on: February 19, 2011, 12:43:15 PM »

From my e-mail spam box, an e-mail from "Ron Paul" -- LPAC Announces Presidents' Day Money Bomb --

Quote

Dear Liberty Activist,

A great man was born 279 years ago.

George Washington was a freedom fighter, a leader, and one of our greatest Presidents.  But, much of General Washington's greatness was marked not by what he did, but by what he chose not to do.

He could have been a King.

Instead, he stood for Liberty and stepped aside after eight years, allowing our young Republic to grow into the greatest nation in Human history.

2012 offers our movement a tremendous opportunity.  Our nation is beset with crippling debt, an out of control federal government, and a foreign policy that weakens our national defense and isolates us from the world.

But with hard work and determination, we can change course and turn our country back toward Liberty and all of its rewards.

Quite frankly, we need to elect a President in 2012 who will do a lot less: less meddling in the economy, less spending, less warrantless ransacking, less bailing out of Wall Street, less inflating, and less foreign aid and overseas intervention.

We need a President who will respect our Constitution, not someone who simply pays lip service to our traditions.

Because I want a President who does so much less, a lot of people ask me if this means I want a weak President.

My answer is "No!"  I want a strong President - a President like George Washington.

I want a President strong enough NOT to take power he should not have.

It is no secret that I am weighing my personal political options for 2012, and that I am relying on Liberty PAC to fund my efforts while I make important decisions.

Monday, February 21st, is Presidents' Day, which celebrates George Washington's birthday, and we hope to make it one to remember.

On Monday, Liberty PAC will host its first-ever Money Bomb.  Please mark it on your calendar and consider contributing.  If we all come together and pitch in, we can take our country back from the statists that are stealing our Liberty and shredding our Constitution.

The next few months will be critical to ensuring a successful political operation for the 2012 cycle.  I hope you will join me by making this Presidents' Day, February 21st, truly special.

For Liberty,

Ron Paul

Dreepa makes a great point on FSP Inc forum:

Quote from: Dreepa
May I suggest a $5 donation ? For two reasons:

1.  NH had the highest per capita donation to the RP 2008 campaign....this of course  helps get NH (and the FSP noticed)

2.  The Liberty PAC does do donation to NH races...They helped out in the 2008 and 2010 races in the state house.

(Emphasis mine.)

The first is a great reason to donate!

(Hmm, maybe I should conspire to send money to someone in NH to donate for me...  Nah, can't trust nobody no more...  Should have kept a NH PO box...)

Has anyone explained what reaction the "LOVE" portion of this logo is supposed to elicit from me? It's a shallow approach to cleverness. What is it that we're supposed to LOVE? The reaction of most, myself included, is that it's some sort of hippie trip.. or maybe it was the most clever thing anyone on the design team came up with so they just stuck to it.

The world has changed quite a bit since those days. I'm not entirely supportive of the idea that a President is essential to my well being.

I want irrefutable proof that the US is the "greatest nation in Human history". Otherwise this is an idle claim coming from an establishment with claims to be anti-establishment.

Been hearing these lines since the 80's.

This isn't a tribal land with one Big Chief deciding who does what. The political systems are enormous and unlikely to be undone by one fellow.

This just seems like more political posturing aimed to groom people to become open to a "new" kind of leadership. Where did all of the money go that was donated last time?

A smart approach would be to use some funds to create a media presence designed to compete with mainstream media outlets, a full-time network dedicated to illustrating how these "new" political ideas would be implemented if given the opportunity. Paul will be slammed by the MSM again, results of his marginalization will be the same.

This is a scam, right? Momma Ally's prolly behind this latest "Money Bomb".

And what is up with Ron Paul's signature? I heard the man has arthritis, but this signature looks a little too "over the top" "arthritis" to me.

Hell no, I don't like Ron Paul, I don't like paleoconservativism . . . but I might change my mind if they bring the blimps out of storage.

Maybe I should make myself clear. I wont be donating to this LPAC thing, but I might donate to his campaign if he runs again, depending on who is running it.

Personally I cant stand money bombs. I find it annoying that they are begging for money, and hate that they tie liberty ideals to the word "bomb."  Politics make me angry.

I was busy, but this came at 7PM last night:

Quote
Subject: What a day

February 21, 2011

Dear Liberty Activist,

What a day we are having!

The Liberty PAC Presidents' Day Money Bomb is proving to be a huge success.

The money and support is pouring in, and I am eternally grateful.

Today's activity has allowed me to confirm another trip to Iowa, as well as a trip to New Hampshire in March, and I have given clearance for the planning of a trip to Nevada.

The phone has been ringing off the hook today with calls from reporters, and that means people are truly taking notice.

They will write a story tonight about our success today, so it is crucial we a dd everything we can to our total.

The higher our achievement, the harder it will be to write us off. So every dollar counts.  I know times are tough, and budgets are tight, but please consider doing everything you can.

If you have not yet donated, please consider doing so now.

Or, if you gave earlier, please consider digging deep and giving one final contribution to help push us over the top.  Remember, there are millions of us across the country, so combining gifts of even $10 is the key to winning.

Again, your support means the world to me, and I am tremendously energized by today. Thank you. I look forward to standing with you in the fight for Liberty.

For Liberty,
Ron Paul

P.S. In honor of George Washington's birthday, Liberty PAC has launched a Presidents' Day Money Bomb.

Your support is critical in guiding my 2012 decision making and guaranteeing a successful political operation so we can elect the type of President who will take our country back from the statists.

So please, click here to make a contribution of $500, $250, $100, $50, or even $20.12, toward the Liberty PAC Presidents' Day Money Bomb.

I didn't donate.

So it looks like they've raised over $700,000 last night, and they're off to New Hampshire [2] ...

More "spam" from "Ron Paul":

Quote
Subject:  Don't Miss Out

February 23, 2011

Dear Liberty Activist,

Monday was a great day!  The Liberty PAC Presidents’ Day Money Bomb was a huge success, and our ticker now reads over $730,000!

The event got tremendous coverage.  USA Today and Politico published feature stories, and both FOX and CNN reported the results on air.  Our success has allowed me to confirm a trip to New Hampshire and begin planning several more to other key political states.

I am humbled by the outpouring of support and hope we can keep the momentum up.  The ticker will remain on Liberty PAC’s website for the next few days, and believe me, people will be watching.

[SNIP:  same image as above, but showing $754,686.96 raised.]

Think about the message we will send if we push all the way to one million dollars!

Since we missed you on Monday, will you consider chipping in now?  Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.

As I always say, our strength lies in our numbers, so contributions of $100, $50, $20.12, or even $10 make a real difference.

Please consider joining me as we fund Liberty PAC to lay the groundwork for our political action in the 2012 cycle.  Together, we can reclaim our Liberty and restore our Constitution.

For Liberty,
Ron Paul

[SNIP:  same "in case you're confused, here's a summary of what I was talking about" postscript.]

Restore the Constitution?

Quote from: Lysander Spooner
“But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist.”

Lysander Spooner and Ron Paul are both right.

Ideologically - never compromise.

Strategically - don't let 'perfect' be the enemy of 'good'.

Paul's recent proposal of letting people opt out of all Federal programs in exchange for lowering their income tax to a flat 10% would definitely be a large step in the right direction.  Never fail to make use of an opportunity to reduce the size and might of the state, even if it's by a tiny degree.  And never fail to proclaim that even 0.001% taxation is still theft.

If you want to get ahead in the world you have to compromise on a lot of things.

If you decide to "never compromise, not even in the face of armaggeddon" then you're looking at the world through black and white and never allowing for shades of grey.

What I'm saying is that you can do both.  Ron Paul needs to compromise in order to be in Washington, but he has said plenty of things throughout his life (especially in 1988, when he was running as a libertarian, as well as his FTL and Alex Jones interviews) to make it clear where he really stands.  When he does things like try to win back some of the money stolen from "his district" through earmarks, that doesn't represent a compromise, because he's the most vocal opponent of the whole system.

Here's another example from my own life.  A few years ago I've gone all Howard Roark about the technologies that my career as a software developer / DBA has to deal with (ref: Software Freedom Scale, Software Philosophy, etc).  I've made my point against left-wing politics in "free" software and its irrational use of government force on countless occasions, which has gotten me banned from many forums (ex. Ubuntu, Gentoo, FreeBSD).  I wear OpenBSD as my cilice, because it is the most "Copyfree" kernel / OS available, but even there I must bust some balls once in a while [2] to point out the ideological flaws.  That won't win me any popularity contests, but nonetheless it is something that I must do.  I cannot entirely escape left-wing licenses and other statist influences in my development stack - using those components is a tactical compromise, but I never compromise ideologically.
