Road Owners Give Me Two Tickets In One Week
« on: August 19, 2008, 12:11:35 PM »

What a week!  (I mean seven days back, not start of the week.)

  • Incident 1 - I got pulled over at night for (allegedly) doing like 70+ in a 50 MPH zone.  The cop let me off with a "careless driving" fine - around $85.  (No verbal blow-job required.)

  • Incident 2 - I got pulled over for (allegedly) talking on a cell phone while driving without an ear-piece.  Another small fine.

No court appearance required for either.  So, um, I don't think I'm gonna fight those.  I got stuff to do - why turn an hour or so of lost wages into two or more days?  That money would come out of donations to other people who can make a stand more competently than a juristic retard like me can here in New Jersey...

Of course I don't agree with those tickets because I wasn't harming anybody.  (In fact, the only time I've ever come close to an accident was 8 years ago in my first year of driving - spun on ice in a snow storm while driving a $500 car with awful traction.)  There wasn't another car within a mile of me on the day I was (allegedly) speeding (the pig was sitting in the bushes with its lights off - some job eh?), and IMHO driving fast and getting home sooner actually reduces my chances of getting drowsy behind the wheel.  And the cellphone bullshit - I just got a new phone, didn't get an ear-piece for it yet.  Dumbest law ever!  Next I won't be allowed to sip a coke or scratch my nose while driving...  But rules are rules, and whoever owns the road gets to make them.

So the question is - are those stretches of NJ Route 18 and NJ Route 33 owned by the townships (or whatever other branch of government) that ticketed me?  They're the ones filling the potholes...  Those are democrat-controlled cities in one of the most taxed states in the country.  The businesses along those roads don't seem to mind the government control of the road, and if you ask them how they'd feel about them being privatized 99% would look at you as if you've just grown a second head.  The fight for road privatization shouldn't be at the very top of our priority list even when it comes to rural roads and highways in New Hampshire, much less the ones I'm dealing with.

And hopefully this will no longer be relevant 20-30 years from now.  If you fly your flying RV at sufficient altitude, don't dump anything, and don't initiate an approach / interception vector toward anyone else, how fast you go or what you do up there is no one else's business.

None of the above.

Do what you want man.  If you have things more important to do than butt heads with a bunch of bureaucratic jackasses, then don't waste your time.

There is no shame at all in doing what violent people tell you to do.

I put NOTA because I would pay them too. What else is one to do? Incur large fines and make yourself a target?

If this is the issue you are going to make your purpose in life then have at it. Otherwise, it seems prudent to save your energy and funds to focus upon the cause you deem worthy.

This is why cops will continue to write tickets.

You could always just show up. If the cop isn't there, (and he probably won't be) instant win.

Yet another reason to keep a video camera in your car. Maybe running at all times.

I'm going with error on the "show up" suggestion.
Best case, you win.
Middle ground, fines/penalties reduced.
Worst case, you still have to pay the fine.

That being said, I will now be smug. Sometimes, it's good to be a girl.

Yeah, my love for the Free State Project was based on major beer goggles...

And I don't think I'll even bother showing up in court - a day of my life (and it will take a whole day out of me) is worth a lot more than the ticket cost.  Even dwelling on it further would be giving the government more of my life than they're worth.

Everything I've ever done for the liberty movement has been based on passion!  But I have no passion to waste my time on a rigged game that I don't enjoy playing - and the more I play the more I lose.

To fight those you do a "Written Trial By Declaration".  But you're a jerk so I'll rub in the fact that since I got rid of my truck and have only been riding my 1000cc street bike I've never gotten pulled over or even tailed by a cop even though I typically cruise 85 on the freeway.

the cop pulling you over doesn't need to show up in court. . . there will be a police officer there who will represent multiple departments in any case that's fought.

I had some stupid statie pull me over when I was 18 and never showed up to court, I found it shitty that my accuser didn't have to be in the court room to face the music.
