I don't mean to sound like one of those "secret incantation conspiracy types" but I got a ticket in NY one time, I went to court hoping the cop wouldn't show up. The judge called me up, I said I wanted to contest it, they put me last, I waited 2 hours and the cop showed up. I did my best, but they fined me anyway.

I met a lawyer later that told me you can request a written account of the incident and if they don't send it to you on time, they throw it out. I don't know what the secret code is, but the lawyer said that in NY that option is on the small print on the back of the ticket.

I'd try both of those if it happened again. If they don't send you the written account, thrown out. If the cop doesn't show up, thrown out. Definitely increases your chances and in the worst case, you're clogging up their system.

Well, I didn't just put out.  They did have to catch me and handcuff me to a bench first.  Bastards!

Shortly after agreeing to pay those fines (while in handcuffs), I've simply decided to stop driving and got rid of my car.  So it goes...

In the past 30 days I've been pulled over 3 times, received 3 or more parking tickets (that I didnt know I would get, obviously), and have been told by cops that random lights on my car were out (an interior rear light? wtf!).

Illegal parking isn't a "victimless crime" if it's on private property, which ideally all property should be.  As I've said above, I have very mixed feelings about traffic court activism, because in a free society the private road owners would still have rules, and many of them would resemble the municipalities of the present day.  The difference, of course, is that the government has a power monopoly over all driving everywhere in the state, with state governments being homogenized and puppet-mastered by the national (and soon the world) government.  All government claims to property are based on theft, and are thus illegitimate.
