Title: Retiring the BBS after a decade+ of service.
Post by: FTL_Ian on September 26, 2015, 04:42:36 PM
Before the days of "social media", there were forums.  Places like this, where people could gather from around the globe to discuss and debate various subjects.  Each participant could create their own profile, under whatever name, and find a place in an online community of people with similar interests.

It was a wonderful time, while it lasted.  As with all things, nothing lasts forever, and with the advent of facebook and twitter, etc, many forums lost significant traffic and never got it back.

This forum probably should have been shuttered several years ago, but I can be stubborn, and held the doors open despite the trickle of users here.

Now it's gotten to the point where most of the new posts are spammers, which means the mods here are cleaning up spam, but to no real purpose.  There are hardly any new users and new posts.

Someday we will see the fall of facebook, and I look forward to that day.  What will best it, I don't know, but I doubt it will be forums like this.

There are a lot of epic threads on here, so the BBS will remain readable, but no new accounts will be able to be created, and no new posts will be allowed either.

It's over.

If you'd like to continue interacting with your fellow Free Talk Live listeners, please join the AMP program (http://amp.freetalklive.com) for $5 a month and you'll get access to our AMP-only facebook group.  You don't have to worry about spammers in there.

You can also still interact with other listeners on the front page of our site (http://freetalklive.com), where you can submit content and comment.

To those of you here who made this forum great, if you are still reading this, thank you.  You know who you are.

Update!

Ok, we're trying a *very small* forum out again.  New software - very modern, very cool.  It's part of the new Shire Forum.  Find the FTL/LRN.FM area here:  http://forum.freetalklive.com
