Assholes just can't stand the idea of a group of people peacefully having fun without having their PapersPlease! in order.

a lot the comments look like they think everyone is ripping each other off, and that without food inspection we are all being poisoned.

If you feel like annoying yourself here is the corresponding Fark thread.

I don't recommend it. I posted the "24 types of Authoritarians" and got out. I can't even understand what some of those people are saying, their positions are so far away from anything remotely sensible.

That's about all you can do with their type. Just do a drive-by posting and be done with it. Arguing with 'em is like mud-wrestling a pig or arguing with a truck driver.

Yeah... of all the places to try something. One would have better luck trying armed robbery in the FBI building.
I don't mind arguing on Fark. I might have to start copying and pasting from here though, I don't remember how to post there.

I find it hilarious that the reporter bought those doomed silver laminated cards then was shut down when trying to buy something with them. Bwah ha ha.

Sucks that the reporter didnt realize WHY they were unable to purchase with those. Way to avoid researching the topic at hand.

It will be a Federal crime to trade in gold & silver after the 15th.  I wonder if that will have any ramifications at PF next year.  Maybe just result in more discretion about who people accepts metals from (or not as people say "fuck it").

It will be a Federal crime to trade in gold & silver after the 15th.

That isn't exactly the case. Deferred (Delayed more than 28 days) delivery of foreign exchange (Forex) sales are the only commerce affected. No other precious metal exchanges, personal or en masse are effected by Dodd-Frank.

If they are a coin dealer who sells gold, silver, etc., and they deliver the product in 28 days or less, the Dodd-Frank Act should not affect them as the seller or you as the buyer.

Still, I expect prices to take a jump as it's a scary scenario being set up.

I expect little people like us will, if anything, just get our shit more quickly.

EDIT: if you buy from Apmex, Kitco, Bulliondirect etc. for instance, nothing changes. If you are doing personal trades, nothing changes. The primary real effects of Dodd-Frank on metal exchanges are making it illegal to take more than 28 days to deliver.

They did okay with the news item this morning. It was a little too truncated to get a good perspective, but I thought George and his rogue breakfast grill came across pretty well. Like that he pointed out with his store-bought eggs that he's all about meeting the needs of his customers while being as gov't free as possible, not just thumbing his nose at the gov't.

I listened to the full podcast a couple days ago - found it to be very good. Sure, they discussed a few things that they had the typical "bunch of nuts" reaction to, but then had a great discussion about the issues of trust (paraphrasing)...one of the services government provides is the luxury of not having to trust anyone... Personal responsibility, including the discussion that teens weren't being sold beer because out of respect for the authority of their parents... no laws needed. They covered ridiculousness of regulating boards and mentioned the many studies by economists which show licensing boards do more protect the established businesses from new competition than the public.

AHAHAHAAHAHA thats an NPR quote. Whatever amount of publicity this movement gets thanks to the NPR plugs, the quality of publicity is going to be crazy.

They didnt talk about not selling teens beer on there.

In the 30 min podcast they did. The reporter bought a handmade coaster from a 9 year old, which came with a free beer. Neither of the fellow doing the podcast seemed to have any problem with buying coaster and beer from the kid... they both thought it was kind of cute, like a lemonade stand.
He then had a conversation with - the girl's mother, I think? - where she said an underage customer would not be served beer, and that it was out of respect for the parents... the podcasters sounded as if they thought it was perfectly reasonable. Between that, the summer camp aspect for kid business startups, and the discussion that anyone causing food poisoning would be shut down by the other campers without the need for health inspectors, I think it definitely shut down the discussion going in the 'libertarians don't care about community' direction.
