Depends on how you use it and what you talk about. I don't like the kind of poetry that you're thinking of, but poetry is whatever image you want it to be. Poetry can even mock itself if the poet so chooses. It doesn't always have to be serious.

It's sad that you have a jaded view of poetry, but I can't say I don't understand. Like most things, you have to sift through crap to find the good stuff.

I have a strong tendency to agree. I love a clever turn of phrase, but as soon as words begin with unnecessary rhyming my eyes glaze over.
