Sam had (he's been booked, so it's old news) the right to a speedy trial and to legal council only if he abandoned his right to remain silent. Apparently, in Keene, you don't have all three rights. You either have the one, and not the other two, or you have the other two and not the one.
This isn't goulags and gas-chambers type tyranny, but it is tyranny all the same.
