Move to New Hampshire
« on: October 24, 2011, 11:26:00 PM »

Hearing Ian for many nights......

I am convinced I need to relocate to New Hampshire to have more freedom.  What specific towns have lower property taxes?

I need a very specific type of home (1 level living-NO basement, level land) and a bunch of other stuff (think Florida homes but brick and well insulated).  I don't want heat/air vents blocking where I can place furniture.  I have to have the option of public transport or taxi.  Medical and shopping near would be nice.  I do not want a fixer-upper nor a homeowner's community.  Something newer would be nice.  I want a place that I can have a vegetable garden and won't have someone imposing how they feel life is best lived onto me.  I would like 1 acre.  I am on a budget.

I have sticker shock when I look at the cost of homes and property taxes there.  So, that has delayed me thus far (and the thought of the winter).

So, what advice can you offer those that want to move for the freedom but don't have a New England budget?  I don't want to settle as moving is expensive and difficult.

I havent started planning my move yet, but you may want to check out one of the forums dedicated to helping people move there.

Perhaps Dale or BJ could post some links to get you started?

I've also recently made the decision to move....hopefully by spring.  I'm totally looking for roommates (wink wink)...who also like dogs (the best security systems on the market)

Congrats on the decision!!  It can be so freeing to finally make the decision and center all your goals around the move!!!!

Whatever activism path you take, please make sure one of the first things you do in NH is to get active volunteering in the community.

Many things that are done by paid bureaucrats in the other states, are done by unpaid volunteers in NH.
People will value your opinion much more after they have a reason to value you.

I've had the same thing looking at Rentals in South-Central New Hampshire. The only home I could actually afford right now in south NH is a double-wide

Better buy now. As the rest of the US economy goes into the shitter, the very small number of states with a functioning sound-money economy will become prohibitively expensive. Think of it as a gated community, but with economics, not bricks, forming the gate
