Modern Popular Rock Songs With Dancable Beats
« on: February 22, 2011, 12:03:00 PM »

Hey, I sing in a 4 piece rock band and we are looking to fill up the rest of our sets with fairly current (year 2000 on) tunes that have a beat that will get the drunks out on the dance floor. Our target audience is the 21 to 35 year old range.

I am having trouble finding current songs that people can dance to. I can't take playing the same old 1980's wedding fare you hear over and over again. I have trouble singing Mony Mony by Billy Idol with a shotgun in my mouth.

Paralyzer by Finger 11, and the Middle by Jimmy Eat World are the only songs I can think of off hand.

Any suggestions? Although it goes against everything that is me, I would like to stick with stuff that is easily recognizable by the masses.

Thanks for the help!

Stupid video, but awesome song for weddings and shit. We had a black singer though, so it worked well. Everyone seemed to really like the song when we played it.

Depends what type of voice you have too. If you had to compare your voice type to a popular singer, what would it mostly be like?

Sometimes a particular voice doesn't lend itself well to certain songs.

I knew I forgot some critical information. :) It depends on the age of the listener, but I have heard us described as sounding like The Ramones, Social Distortion or The Offspring. Those three band names come up quite often.

We seem to have luck playing just about any kind of genre. We have had good success taking any 3 minute song, cranking up the overdrive and playing the song in 2 minutes in the key of F-U. When we do this we kind of come across as a Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies with a more "bite".

I prefer to play in this style but I think it would be wise from a business point of view to play some more main stream songs.

I wont post any of our stuff since I want to remain fairly anon, but imagine this cover with a more scratchy raunch in the vocals. Even though my voice is completely different, the band's tone sounds very similar to this song.

Not sure what your range is but these are songs that always get me dancing and I've heard them all played at weddings by bands.
