The Keene Sentinel did a story on Mark if I recall. I know when I first heard that there was a murderer among the crowd, I was thinking WTF. After I read the details, I was willing to take Mark at face value for the decent guy he seemed to be. He made a horrible mistake, one he has to live with, and he can't change what happened no matter what he does now. Paying that family money won't bring back the victim. Mark seems to be doing his part to help prevent another horrible story like his from occurring.
I can be pretty judgmental (shocking, I know!) - but I'd choose Mark as a friend over a many, many people involved with the FSP. He seems to be a great guy with a wonderful family and I would trust him with my kids, if I had kids. I could post a lengthy list of people here who weren't involved with a murder that I couldn't say I would trust my kids with...or your kids...or even your dog.
