I don't have as much Lego time as when my boys were younger, but still enjoy getting called in to help with fort designs.
Teen and Preteen have been known to go catapult vs. ballista with lego/soldier setups. I have been informed this is not "playing with legos" - it is engineering and battle strategy...

BTW, "Pick a Brick" is the best thing ever.

They just phased out the "Design your own" where you can use their software to design a kit that has a box with custom art and an instruction manual, but the "Pick a Brick" still exists.

You just tell them what pieces you want (It has a browser for just about every piece they make) and they toss 'em all into a bag and ship them to you.

I was able to get one last order in on the "Design Your Own" sets and built a skeleton army. It's shipped but hasn't arrived yet.

I'll post pics when it shows up.

Mel and I discussed and we're starting a nickel jar for this -

I secretly played with legos well through high school, but I really dont think I should these days. It is socially unacceptable. I still fondly think about my old legos every now and then.

However, were I single...

I suppose that's why I log many hours into Minecraft each week.

How long did that discussion last?

Strike two.

And to answer your question -

She said "We should start a nickel jar and save up for that one!"

Then I said "I agree."

See? All the cool people are doing it.

Also, tonight we had to make an extra stop to get eggs on the way home. Dropped by the Wallyworld. It was kinda a crappy night. Battery went poof in the car and had to call AAA, who amazingly showed up in 20 minutes or so. We were at the PetSmart. Mortimer has a date with destiny at the Vet Monday (Getting his balls popped) because he peed on Mel's office chair today. (And because Mr. Kitty spending his whole life with blue balls would prolly be a bummer for him, and as a result, a bummer for us.)

So he be on the fast track to eunuch-ville and we feel pretty bad.

So we picked up a state of the art, massive, close to six foot kitty high rise carpeted thingy with FOUR levels on it to climb. S'frigging crazy. Kitty jungle gym for sad, soon to be sans-balls Mortimer and co.

So we go to leave and car no start. Y U NO START. AAA man comes and jumps us, and we on our way.

Did I mention that we're in the middle of a fucking Michigan blizzard?

Anyway, we stop on the way home to get eggs. Mel comes out with DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DAAAAAAAAAH!

http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Alien-Mothership-7065 (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Alien-Mothership-7065)

Holy shit son. S'fucking awesome. We have all the cool Alien Conquest bits now. Sure, there's the human army boolsheet, but fuck all that. Who wants a helicopter and a truck? We have the Alien Abduction saucer, which shoots a red tractor beam down on shit, and the Tripod Invader that stomps on shit and collects people for horrible experiments, and we have the Alien Defender and Alien Strikers (Lil speeder vehicles and "Good guys" with a hooman car.)

AND NOW THE MUHFUGGIN MUTHASHIP YO.

Shit be dope. You can hold the middle bit by a handle and spin the giant disk around it. When it spins it be all having a FREEEEEEwowowowowowoeeeeerrrrr sound effect box.

Shit yes.

Lord Dominar Goes Camping - By John Shaw's inner child, Age Six.

The forces were beginning to amass, although this was but a small regiment. They were in good spirits, especially the spirits, and bore no grudge against their master in spite of the cold weather on the fields of Vaasa this day.

And oh yes, there were more to come. The crossbowmen, the swordsmen, the heavy lancers, the royal guard and the standard bearers. Not to mention Peppy Fezzle, The Skeletal Archmage of Some Repute. He could never compete with Lord Dominar's magical prowess but will make for a powerful and trusty general. Perhaps tomorrow. As soon as the asshole from DHL shows up.

Soon... Soon... The battle would begin between Greyface's Forces of Tyrannical Despotism and the righteous vengeance of Lord Hexus Dominar's Army of the Persecuted Dead...

BONES. SHALL. RATTLE.

DUNdudundundunDUNdundundunDUNdundundunDUNDUNDUN  COOOOOEEEEEEEE COOOOEEEEEEEEEEE!

1. Wtf is wrong with their arms. Those are not correct from when I was a kid.
2. The ghosts are glow in the dark. Awesome. I used to put them on various guys as a sort of "superpower".

1. You can't get the old googly arms anymore. (EDIT - They still make them and sell them in some sets, but you can't buy them directly.) The torso has hard posts now rather than those flimsy swivel jobbies. The plus side is that now they are poseable rather than flopping around all over the place. There are "Rounder" skeleton arms that are a lil' smoother looking but you can't pick-a-brick them and the hand only holds things vertically. With the squarish arms there are two poses, so I bought one of each hand position for each lil' skellington.

2. Yeah, you can't get the ghosties anymore. Those two were old ones we had sitting around.

The main forces have arrived. Box looks great even tho the Skellingtons has no faces. (Design By Me was out of them so I had to order Skellington heads separately.) S'aight tho.

AND HERE THEY ARE -

AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

Ghosties are morale officers.

Rear guard and standard bearers.

Archmage Peppy Fezzle and his bodyguards.

At some point I'll find me a Lego wizard hat and beard compatible cloak for extra awesome.

Legos are cool.

Yep, Legos are cool. This thread reminded me of some of the space lego sets I had. Heres one I can remember.

I may actually still have all the legos too. I know I didn't throw them out, but I'm not sure if I gave them away. Looks like I might be doing some digging around in the shed sometime this week.

btw those skeletons look awesome. Shame their hands are in a fixed position though.

Yeah that's why each one has two different arms so I could get multiple grip positions. Ya just switcheroo their arms.

Updated -

They be all badass and shit.

Peppy the wizard shouldn't be going around on foot so I put together a wagon. Also has some weapons supplies and a step-n-fetchit guy. Archer commander and The Grim Reaper ride beside him now. A couple other skeleton apprentice wizards can fucking walk for all he cares.

The new, very cramped formation. It's crappier but s'what I got at this point. Cannon fodder skeletons are now taking the flanks.

1. OH YES.

2. I like the round ones, and those ones have a cool mean face on them going RAWR. They make oodles of shield shapes now.

Mind you these guys are made to order. I'm not piecing them together from some box of spares because all I own are right there. I mean, we have the alien stuff and a couple spaceships of as mentioned, but the skeleton crew was all bits direct from the Lego site.

Actually, there are some bits from some minifigs we bought. The metal helmets on the guys in back.

<<<Not in the bidness of buying piles of Legos just to get the bits he wants.

Unfortunately I can't get all the bits for the one I worked on tonight. It's a more serious supply wagon for the wizard.

Here's the semi-complete design.

So I continued with the skeleton army. 20 new troops (Spearmen) showed up yesterday. Retooled the wagon for Peppy. Built a humble version of Hexus's tower.

Short depth of field yo.

This is an unusual hobby.  I like the greybeard with the green gem on the staff.

I also like how you can shoop these dioramas into some fantasy awesomeness.  I think thats my favorite part.

No disrespect, overall, its not my thing.  But I have to admit, there is some major detail and effort, and thats what its all about.  Kinda like "building birdhouses", these are the things you can indulge your creativity.

I, too, have a detail-oriented hobby.  Which I will not elaborate upon.  I like having a talent that would make people shit themselves, that nobody knows about.  Like magic tricks and stuff.  You can go "oh, yeah, I do that", and show them, and they go "NO FUCKIN SHIT!  THAT'S BADASS!"

And IRL, they'd be like "How... when... why??"  Because I can, and it amuses me..

May I request more awesome shoops?

This is why I'm loving minecraft. Always something to build/discover.
