I got _Ben-Hur_ from NetFlix yesterday.

Like _Spartacus_ before it, I am taking the time to go through the "commentaries" track.

These were movies I saw on TV as a kid, cut up with commercials, trimmed to fit both the screen and the time allotted.

What a difference, to hear these masters of their craft talk about what they were doing to make things work.

These kinds of "epics" were scrutinized from every angle, took years to film, and employed the best of the best (even breaking the Hollywood blacklist).

Anyway, enjoy.

Animation fit on Netflix: "Up," followed by "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs."

Both were well worth the time.  I had very low expectations for the latter, but was pleasantly surprised.  There were so many gags geared more for adults than kids that I ceased to see it as child-oriented film at all.

predators - i didn't hate it

I thought it was a fun little popcorn-munched.

Cool. I've heard good things about it. Not that it's great, but that it's a very fun action movie to watch. Predators has moved up on my date night movie list.

We'll be seeing Sorcerer's Apprentice tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Am not setting the bar too high, so will probably enjoy it.

Sun/Mon/Tue were Slayer-fest in my household. We watched the last half of "Buffy" season 7 while recovering from vacation.

Yeah Pirate Radio was a fun movie. Especially after pirating it online.

"The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It"

I must be getting old, because even I thought it was a bit too over the top.

Wow.  That looks like the kind of movie that if any of those actors' careers go anywhere, they'll leave it off their resumes and wish they could expunge it from IMDB.

Seems like they don't get the idea of parodies.  The idea is to do silly spoofs of movies that take themselves too seriously.  It doesn't really work with comedies that are already not taking themselves seriously, e.g. 40 Year-Old Virgin and Superbad.  It ends up looking like a badly done copy where they try to milk a few extra laughs out of the same jokes.

The Last Airbender.

I died a little inside.

I'm distracting my children with other things whenever they ask to go see this. I enjoyed watching the cartoon series with them, but the movie? From what I've heard, I will not just die a little inside if I take the family to the theatre to see it, I will be angry at having been duped into spending $50 for the tickets. Holding out for $4.95 when it's available OnDemand.

Today's distraction was the last three episodes of Doctor Who, ice cream and cookies.

It disturbs me that Shamalamalayan has been able to keep making mainstream movies this long.  Where is the rage?

There's plenty of it here.  All of shyamalamadingdong's movies really suck.
