Recently finished Birth of a Nation. Its a strange movie in that the KKK are the good guys, and the people enforcing reconstruction the bad.
Taking into account that the film was made in 1915, only 50 years after the end of the civil war, and the fact that D.W. Griffith had a father who served in the confederate army, and your perspective changes. This was a half century before civil rights, and when looked at that way, its oddly balanced. To them, the civil war was a fresher memory then WWII is to us now.
Also, blackface never stops being funny.
