The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008)

...(which is, that property is theft, etc. "The Earth is not yours.")

The original was pretty good.

"Destroy yourselves, fine. But you will NOT take us with you."

Unfortunately, it relied upon Plato's Philosopher Kings, in the "person" of Gort, the infalable all-powerful robot.

That was back when people thought the universe was contracting. Now that "we" see it as expanding, the basic argument fails.

A more fun libertarian variation would be an extremely powerful group who sold their services as a private security guard who would, as part of a subscription service, protect you from aggression by any other person or group. They would have clauses in their contracts exempting you from protection where there in situations where you were the aggressor. "We have come to your planet to enforce liberty for those who are willing to pay for our service".

From the last few comments, I'm going to continue avoiding the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still.
I'm not opposed to giving remakes a chance, but it sounds like I'm not going to be missing much.

We watched The Devil & Daniel Webster (1941) Saturday night, with the kidlets. On a bit of an AMC/TCM kick around here.

Yeah in this case the remake really is A LOT worse than the original.  Hell I thought even Invasion of the Pod People was better done.

Angels and Demons. It was silly. And, after awhile, tiring.

No wonder Netflix gave it 3 stars.

I'm learning to trust Netflix star ratings.

I watched that yesterday also. It's hard to put such an involved story into a movie. It makes people's motives seem much shallower. I liked the way the movie handled the assassin guy though. He was a badass without being too over-the-top.

As always, the book was much better... although it wasn't a fantastic book either.

Interview With The Vampire
Eddie Izzard: Definite Article
Men in Black
Underworld 3

Netflix instant watch will be my demise.

In other news, Underworld 3 was actually better than 2, if you like that sort of thing.

Probly a phase with the new speaks and all.

I got a pair of cheapos last year and blitzed through all 87 hours of The Sopranos.  It was like a whole new world opened up, after being stuck in laptop ShitSound 2.bleh

Canadian Bacon.  The only half decent movie made by Michael Moore.  Hilarious, but Moore is still a jackass.  I still laugh my ass off at this movie.  Moore is still a jackass.  I still laugh my ass off.
