I've stopped watching comic-based movies, considering that the last ten or so that I've seen have been terrible.

Once again, The Watchmen beats them all.  These superheroes are seriously flawed, and we are not talking Bruce Wayne/Batman type flaws.  Think sadistic, mass murdering, rapist, impotent, superheroes.

I just watched the Watchmen too, I'm not really into the super heroe thing. Not my cup of tea.

In my world those people are called "villains."  And your description makes this film sound anything but appealing.

Alan Moore more or less is a nihilist, Rillion, so I wouldn't expect anything by him to be any less.

Good point.  I didn't like the film of V for Vendetta either.

The Top 10 comics were good, though.  I'd go see a movie made from them.   :)

For some reason I think it's going to take a Tolkien-like figure to push comics into the big leagues of literature. Folks like Moore are amateurs at best and complete grown-up teenagers at worse when it comes to the content of their narratives. Sometimes they hit upon a quality that's endearing like what Moore did with Rorschach despite his insane form of moral abolutism, but equally he fucks up with characters like Doctor Manhattan (whom seems to be both sexually and intellectually frigid). Then again, what the hell do I know, I've never been published. *shrugs*

I like my heroes to be super. Not corrupt and fucked in the head.

Give me Superman or Captain Marvel over Rorschach and Spawn any day.

I agree and I should have probably put the word heroes in quotes and completely left out the word super.  Only one of them actually has powers. Also, impotency doesn't necessarily make you a villain.  As for the rest of them, the film challenges the viewer to question the morality of their actions and motives, thus the tagline "Who watches the watchmen?"

I just saw a video on MSNBC and an "expert" was saying that the watchmen won't be profitable despite it grossing $55million this first week mainly because of its excessive production/marketing budget as well as rights issues between studios. She claimed that the production alone was over $150 million. However she made a kind of crazy claim that films that don't attract audiences multiple times aren't profitable.

WOW.
I'm one third of the way through watching The Watchmen (I havent read any of the comics) and I have to say that I am enjoying the music at least. A lot of songs I like a whole lot.
The rest is equally good.
