My favorite movies are the ones that make you laugh and cry almost at the same time. Tops in that category is La Vita è bella aka Life is Beautiful.

Yeah that was a really good movie.

The Oscars are on Sunday, so I've been making an effort to see the nominated films.. so far here's my verdict:

Milk: Statist suckage, Discrimination against gays is bullshit but so is trying to legislate "anti-gayness"
Doubt: Religious suckage that's boring and makes no point
The Visitor: OK.. speaking out against the US immigration policy but quite boring. Nobody does anything more interesting than playing drums in the park
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Boring suckage... Who fuckin cares about a boy who grows up old and turns younger??? Is that supposed to give me jollies?? Nothing is said.. it's all Brad Pitt worship... Thumbs down..

The quest continues..

Can't anybody tell a good story any more???

I only saw Benjamin Button, and I thought it was an interesting concept. I enjoyed it.

It's a movie about a politician who is considered to be a hero.  What did you expect?

I just saw Rambo First Blood again.  It is so pro-freedom, I'm amazed that it was a big hit.

Now re-watch the 3rd Rambo. Watch as the Afghans plead for US weapons and money to fight the Russians.

I saw Slumdog Millionaire.. it was pretty good...  A picaresque story (like Oliver Twist) set in India. Also a Love Story, gangster film, and a bit of social commentary on police corruption.

See the thread I posted:

Igor

Vaguely remember hearing about it last year, maybe.
Turned out to be a decent kid movie that didn't drive this parent crazy.
Rather enjoyed it.

Into The Wild.

Good.  Liked it.  Book was better.  Normally I try to avoid saying that, but its a damn good book, even though it's not written particularly well.  But the story it tells is fantastic, read it.

Batman - Dark Knight.   Good, liked it.  The movie itself was okay, but as everyone has mentioned a thousand times, Heath Ledger was excellent.  I want to watch it again just to see his Joker.

Mr and Mrs Smith.  Anj Jolie, nuff said.  First half was cool, end was stupid, ruined the whole movie.  Pissed me off, but didn't expect much to begin with.
