Flash Gordon

Did it remind you of Star Wars?

My 11 & 12 year olds were drawing comparisons non-stop.

Saw Cool Hand Luke just recently.

It was a great film. Real classic. A lot of people here would like it I imagine because the main character is just so individualistic.

Also, Dragline is one of the characters. So now I know where Dragline got his name from.

I might have to look at that now. They show it on TNT all the time but I always just changed the channel. I always thought it would be depressing.

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

I'm only about 20 mins in but I'm already seeing similarities to Cabin in the Woods. Imagine Cabin on a smaller scale of production but possibly done smarter, more clever in some ways. I think I'm going to like it.

It's only on Netflix streaming for a couple more days, btw.

I'm not really an "anime" person but I've been on a Miazaki (spelled wrong) Studio Ghibli kick lately. I've seen My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, & Spirited Away in the past. Recently I watched Howls Moving Castle and Porco Rosso. All excellent.

Speaking of movies.  Blockbuster Online claims to be having a special right now.  You get 6 months of free movies or games, 1 at a time.

Act of Valor

I was afraid it was going to be bad, and it was...pure bullshit propaganda. It was shameful. I can't believe it got a passing rating on IMDB.  It was so bad that "act of valor bullshit" even shows up in google search words.

Get the Gringo (2012)

I just wrote up a small review for this at my site.  It's really good.  It's classic action movie Mel Gibson.

http://www.coolmovieguy.com/2012/11/mini-movie-review-get-gringo-2012.html

I'm pretty sure it is on Netflix streaming.  It didn't get a very big release so a lot of people missed it.

Mel Gibson is a racist religious lunatic. I can't watch his movies anymore because I can only see him as Mel Gibson and not one of the cool characters he plays. Too bad. I used to like his movies.

The last movie I saw was Cloud Atlas.

Great movie, but I suggest reading the book first.

I also saw the SciFi movie: Love.

Same here, it just ruined him for me.

Related note (religion crazyness): I decided today that whenever I see a picture of "White Jesus" I'm going to say something like "Oh I didnt know you were Mormon?". So many people have that white picture of Jesus hanging up at home when in reality he was likely very short (closer to 5'), had a dark middle-east complexion, and like many jews probably had curly locks of hair and a giant nose. Yet a Google search for "Jesus" brings up nothing similar.
