Every libertarian should watch this excellent PBS series about the history, and failure, of the Great Experiment. Some lessons to be learned about outlawing substances here.

This is the second time I heard I should watch this.  When it becomes available on Netflix instant streaming, I'm there.

Actually I think many Libertarians already understand the faults of Prohibition.  It is the Statists that need educating.

This is worth watching for sure.

It does not give me much hope for the future however. 

What I noticed throughout the entire thing, is that people continue to do the same stupid shit over and over, generation after generation.

They learned the first time that there's way too much money profiting from prohibition. It's easier to demonize "drugs" rather than alcohol.

In that respect, the largest fastest growing criminal element in the world,  “government”, has learned something.

Alcohol prohibition may have made certain individuals within the “government” a lot of money, but
taxes on alcohol before 1920's prohibition made up 70% of the “governments” take.

The “government” lost money on that deal.

Now the “government” is directly involved in the drug / prison industrial complex business.  They have learned how to make money and grow their criminal cartel.

Something I learned from this film that I did not know.  The do gooders pushing for prohibition also pushed for the income tax to replace the lost revenue from alcohol tax.  Helping to grow the “government” criminal cartel.

The do gooders of the world are the ones that never seem to learn anything at all.  They are wielding the weapon of “government” against tobacco also.  Not because they can make any money, but because they feel the need to control other peoples lives.  What they haven’t figured out is there are people who will not be controlled and will push back violently.  Then they cry about all the crime. (That they created) Then beg for a larger more powerful criminal cartel, “government” to protect them.

Then on the other side of the coin....................Those on the legalize side of the issue are all to willing to allow “government” involvement.................Medical marijuana...............they tried prescription alcohol during prohibition.

Moral to the story........................decriminalize............don’t compromise...............or reap the reward of violence, and crime.
