Kat Dillon & the "Women Who Make It Happen" in NH Magazine
« on: April 20, 2006, 01:50:26 PM »

I just rec'd my (1st) May edition of New Hampshire Magazine. One of the cover articles is "18 Women Who Make It Happen: Advocates, Activists, and Agitators."

In the Agitators portion, number one is Kat Dillon, who is listed as as Free State Fundamentalist. If I can't find a link on line, I'll type up the article in quote form and add it to this post shortly.....

Still the April edition online, so here goes (NH Magazine, May 2006, pg 52):

Kat Dillon: She's only lived here for two years, but has quickly become one of the most vocal Libertarians in the state. She moved to Keene as part of the Free State Project, an effort to shift the political balance by moving 20,000 Libertarians to New Hampshire.

Last spring, Dillon received the most notorious manicure in state history: the one given by an unlicensed practitioner in a public protest of state licensing. In February, she and her husband Russell Kanning were arrested outside a Manchester building where President Bush was giving a speech for refusing to move to a designated protest area.

Dillon is even putting her home on the line for her principles: she is refusing to pay the school portion of her property taxes because public schools "teach conformity, and they don't teach much else." Need we say that her daughter is home schooled?

Russell and Kat (and the Keene Free Press) are my primary motivation for choosing Keene as the most likely spot I'll be moving to for the F.S.P. It seems to be where all the good stuff is happening. :D

Thanks, TN.

Follow the link people - I'm reading the article in it's dead tree form.
Libertarian Agitators, Garden Shows & Chainsaw Etiquette, all in one magazine. I think I'm gonna like NH.

I think Keene will be the hub of Liberty, eventually.

Perhaps we can even infiltrate the university, and have Keene State University go totally private, and free market.

And finally get one that stops pushing socialist agendas? Wow, how fast can I sign up for that?!  :D

I stayed in Keene when I visited NH last year.  It is a real nice little town.  I liked it more than the other parts that I visited.

Keene is nice, but it seemed like there is a city-wide smoking ban. When I visited last month, a group of us went to the Chicago-style restaurant called Uno's(?) and I couldn't smoke inside. WTF. Also, Keene seems pretty liberal despite all of the freestaters in the area.

Sounds like a good target to me.
