Random thought: does that johngaltgifts.com pay royalties to that commie asshole Leonard "A-rabs have no rights" "vote for lesser of two evils" Peikoff?  I love 90% of his philosophy, but the other 10% ruin it completely, which is why I encourage everyone to pirate Ayn Rand's works.  And if they're not paying royalties - that's like dumping a bucket of steaming hot coffee on an ambulance-chasing trial lawyer!

No idea.. and no idea who Peikoff is. I suppose he owns the rights to the novel?

Actually I'd wondered about creating logos for these fictional companies and whether or not that would require some sort of approval..

I finished anthem hours ago, I wished it was longer. I was deceived by my book, I was only half way through the book when the story ended. Turns out I have the original english version and the reworked american version in one book.

So I've spent most of my afternoon browsing the bbs reading old threads I missed out on.  :|

I just finished atlas shrugged, it was somewhat dull, only a couple parts made the book worth reading for me, mostly francisco

now I'm moving on to the lysander spooner reader, starving the mokeys, the portable thoreau, another book in the sword of truth series (naked empire), and probably voices of a peoples history of the united states

I've just about done away with any kind of tv or film etc.

Francisco's speech on money makes it worthwhile--even working through the ending, which drones on and on and on.

For what it's worth, I opted for the audiobook--all sixty-some hours of it.  I "read" most of it over two very long back-to-back round-trip journeys (mostly) on Interstate 70--and that still wasn't enough time to finish it.  I listened to the last ten or fifteen hours while walking on a nature trail.

Most audiobooks are about the length of one round-trip journey down Interstate 70, for me (like, 15 or 20 hours.)

Is that the one where the guy is banished from society for learning about old technology, and a babe follows him into the woods? (That's a quick summary for all of ya.)

I remember that only because you mentioned you thought the story was gonna be a whole lot longer- I was expecting the same.

It is, I thought it was a very good start and was hoping there was more to the story.

I read Atlas Shrugged while still a conservative Christian. It was one of the most influential pieces of literature I've ever read. Yes, it was wordy. No, I still have the last 30 pages of John Galt's speech bookmarked to read later (It's been 3 years). While there are a lot of sexual kinks in the book, those can be overlooked for myriads of spot-on commentary covering the evil of money, obligation to family, socialism, labor unions, monetary policy, corporatism, regulation, and crony government. She takes the time to thoroughly counter every point made by socialists, collectivist, and altruists. Since finishing AS, I have gone on to read all of her other fiction and much of the nonfiction. Fountainhead is better than AS, Anthem and We the Living are both riveting and fast paced (should be read instead of 1984 in school), and her nonfiction is spot-on, especially the essays "Age of Envy" and "Comprachicos".
Leonard Peikoff...runs the Ayn Rand estate and ARI. He was her favorite student and chosen by her to edit and distribute her works, with his own additions.
