See how I used an ly word there that is an adjective and not an adverb?
No, I don't see it because I haven't the foggiest bloody idea what an adjective is vs an adverb. All I know is what the kid's School House Rock says, and only what gets "stuck in my head" from that.
Why? Because while it's mildly interesting, it's completely useless. If the sentence flows and the spell checker doesn't flag anything, I'm done.
An adjective is a word that describes a noun (person, place, thing). Brown, ugly, vociferous, instrumental, gigantic, tedious, etc.
An adverb is a word that describes a verb (action) or an adjective. Graciously, carefully, obnoxiously, softly, calmly, expertly, etc.
I'm sure that you know the difference; you just didn't know that you know the difference. That's usually how grammar works-- people know what makes the "sentence flow" even if they can't explain why.
