You don't need QuickTime to watch QuickTime videos. You can use VLC media player to play .mov files. VLC is the best media player that there is.
To download trailers from Apple's site, you can get an add-on for Firefox called User Agent Switcher.
Install the add-on, restart Firefox, go to Tools -> Default User Agent, then create a new User Agent, clear all the fields, type "QuickTime" into the User Agent and Description fields.
Now you're all set. This isn't as hard to do as it looks.

I remember listening to a podcast/interview in Mises.org where Jeff Riggenbach (I think) spoke about Lord of Rings. I'm pretty sure that he said the author claimed the message of those books was that power corrupts.
