Gonna get a couple punkin's myself, tomorrow. Dunno if we're gonna have any Trick R' Treaters what with the low population of the area, but we're gonna do Halloween stuff anyway on Nov 7th.

Having a little party. Movies and such.

This year was the first year without cartoon characters on the request list. Brains, zombies and baby-eating cannibals were the three replies from the kidlets. (Should I be concerned?)

Anyway, the kids did a good deal more of the carving this year than in the past. Was kind of nice, though I miss having a lot of detail work. I do have one gray-green pumpkin I could carve tomorrow, if I want to do one on my own.

Bah, humbug!

Can't stand Halloween.

Pumpkins make for good eating though.

Going to get a pumpkin tomorrow, I guess, and carve it while watching Trick 'r Treat, but I haven't yet decided what to carve into it.  Suggestions are welcome.

(Should I be concerned?)

You should be concerned when they no longer care about carving pumpkins.

I made a jack o lantern with my gf a few days ago and now it has like melted.  It's flattened out and oozing out the bottom.  Kinda looks cool, but its nasty.  In the past I've had jack o lanterns last up to two weeks.  Never seen this happen before.  I guess they sold us a faulty pumpkin.

Same thing happened to me. Did you keep them inside? I think that is where we went wrong. My theory is that the temperture is perfect indoors for mold growth.

I didn't carve this pumpkin but I live in Keene.  There are 30,000 free carved pumpkins.  I decided to take this one because it was big and close by me.

I usually put my jack o lanterns in a big bucket of cold water for a couple of hours, if the temps are warmer. Keeps them fresh a bit longer.

This year, the temps are in the mid 60s-70s, and humid - rain every other day - so I tried another method I read about. Sprayed the cut surfaces and inside of each with clorox clean up spray. It's supposed to keep bugs and ick at bay. The one pumpkin which we carved earlier this week (exposed brains) is still looking good. I gave it another quick spray when I put out the others yesterday, but it didn't have the usual column of ants wandering through it, so I think it's working.

I think you're probably right.
