Government Footprint
« on: April 26, 2009, 05:41:35 PM »

We have all heard the hoopla over carbon footprints and how people all suggest we calculate our footprints, and reduce them.

Well, what about your government footprint? If we were to make a scale 1-10 of our usag, where would you fit in?

1- you only use the streets, and thats because they own them
2- you pay your taxes.....with as little money as possible
3- you voluntarily use public transportation
4- you have used government money to subsidize anything you have done, like college
5- you have called the police
6- you have used a government institution for a problem you could have solved yourself
7- you are a government supplier for goods and/or services
8- you work for the government
9- you are a bloodsucking welfare recipient
10- you pay money to politicians to get laws passed in your favor

Discuss, comment, and amend if necessary.

You are on level 5 of government usage? You could go down from there.

Never done number 4, disdain doing number 3 but do it sometimes anyways.  Although I have done number 5 once.

Methinks the less the better, and if you do anything, the lower numbers are preferable to the higher ones.

I have called the cops once. There was a car alarm going off for a long time at 2 am and I needed to sleep before a test the next day. So I called the cops etc. Told them what I saw. The cops were idiots and spent FOREVER trying to find the lousy car...in the end four cop cars showed up

Nothing happened, the alarm turned itself off by the time the cops showed up anyway and I went to bed. Certainly not the first time I've talked to cops, detectives etc. but the only time I have ever initiated the interaction.

What a total waste of their time and mine. I regret the situation.

So I'm at 5.

I guess realistically its a 4 for me.  I could argue for lower, but i'd probably be accused of making excuses.

4 should be rolled into 9.

Also, what about sending your kid to public school. Where does that fit in?

But there are other ways of using the government.
What if you file your taxes because you know you'll be getting some back?
Or if you make use of public campgrounds owned by the state?
