Getting your geek on. Non-geeks not allowed.
« on: February 05, 2012, 03:56:00 AM »

Talk about your current favorite geekout.

Mine is Lego and a return to one of my all time passions, one of which I never discuss here.

THIS MOTHERFUCKER RIGHT HERE.

Here he is, beating the fuck out of his shitty American knockoff in about ten seconds.

Godzilla Final Wars Godzilla Vs Zilla

A thing that I want -

The thing I want the most -

http://www.amazon.com/Godzilla-Giant-Vinyl-Assembly-Required/dp/B0052WTICW

I kinda got away from collecting plastic crap, but Big G will always have space on the shelves and Lego seems to have re-earned its place.

Get your geek on.

Someone finally started a D&D game in Manchester, NH. I think 10 players showed up (self included) and quite a few more stuck around to watch and seemed to be getting hooked. Now it sounds like more people are already talking about starting up games.

The only truly geekworthy thing I regularly return to is Tetris.  It never really gets old.  And even if I do "forget" about it, years later when I pick it back up, it's like an old friend.

I would like to own a real pinball machine.  Full-size, not some half-assed model you can get at Sharper Image.  Addams Family was probably my all-time fav.

Also, an old skool Battlezone machine would be dope.

I think calling Tetris geeky should be grounds for eviction from the geek thread.

This might be more dork than geek, but it was my favorite show growing up. Funniest part of the show was how this Japanese kid (the robots master, who will only answer to him) got to be the one to control the Giant Robot. The scientist who created him, shows the robot to this CIA type dude and some kid who shouldn't have even been there and says, "The first person to speak into the watch will control the robot forever." So the kid grabs the watch out of the scientists hand and talks into it. The scientist says "Oh, it seems you are the robots master now."

WTF???? Guy spends millions of dollars creating a giant robot and just walks around with a live controller for some kid to easily swipe out of his hand inside his own laboratory?

Anyway, loved this show and got the full series from Amazon on DVD a few weeks ago.

Tetris IS geeky.  People actually bought computers to play Tetris.

It's just that it caught on with the mainstream.

Maybe you just don't remember when it first came out.  There was a lot of rabble about people seeing it in their sleep.  Same with PacMan.

Those are the games that launched home consoles.  If that's not geeky, I donno what is.

In Manhattan this summer, in a t-shirt shop, I actually got my X to buy this shirt for her BF - rather than a CBGB OMFUG shirt, or a Lennon tee, or any other bullshit..

She said he was a geek, so I figured we'll see about that..  Never heard of it again.

Even without knowing the origin, it's still a super cool logo.

The Saddest Day In Nostalgic History!

There's no way in hell I'm clicking that shit because I know with 90% probability that it's when Johnny Sakko's Giant Robot disobeys a command and sacrifices himself to save the world.

Fuck that shit. I cried when I saw it the first time and I've seen that episode three times since and I fuckin' bawl every time.

Tetris didn't really become popular until it was released on the Game Boy, 5 years after it first came out. Tetris came bundled with the Game Boy.

My wife used to play it on the NES and Gameboy all the time.

I never understood why people liked Tetris. I've probably played it about 4 times in my life. I remember being mad I wasted a quarter on it in the arcade the first time I tried it.

Tetris is still one of the most popular games being sold on phones and shit.

I'm all about Donkey Kong. I have a DK cab.

I  have a Billy Mitchell signed Topps player card.

I just ordered the Steve Wiebe card.

But now Hank Chien holds the DK world record, set at Funspot.

Different strokes for different folks.

Does that mean I did or did not play Tetris on Nintendo when I was fourteen?

I recall several events, maybe you could walk me through them.

Ever played 3D stereogram tetris? If you can handle it, give it a try. So much more fun than regular tetris.

Also, did you guys know that each pacman ghost behaves in its own unique way? Also, there is a secret spot in pacman where you can sit and nobody will get you.

I love the older IBM keyboards. It's nice having all those function keys separated from the rest of the keys.
