Either he is himself a racist or is merely pandering to racists.

So, you believe that the anti-immigration crowd are all racists?

Right, and the worst kind since they are supporting the use of violence against others based on this racism.

Just busting yer balls a bit. I like the guy. I really do not see him as a racist. Overcome with his own publicity... maybe. He is caught in a whirlwind and until we walk in his shoes I'll hold off on judgement.

And granted, he walked in those circles before. We all can change but when push comes to shove we all can fall back into something that is comfortable.  At the end of the day this is a guy I would drink with.

(I know it is not proper to start a sentence with "and", I live by my own rules.)

On a side note, RP said at the Rally for the Republic that there is a place for peaceful civil disobedience. So, I hardly think he's lacking on any core principles, in case anybody forgot. You can google his speech there for yourself, but I saw it myself in person. He's got the cajones on both sides of the aisles. If you google 'ron paul rally for the republic' and get his whole speech, check out 1hr 15" 20 for the legit word, though I've listened to it all many a time.

This whole news letter thing is a total distraction. How about focusing on the racism that he continues to promote today?

Good point - I wish you would have called.

But I disagree that everyone who supports restrictive immigration is racist.

Some are not racist, just nationalist bigots.
I can't deny the dumby bigots. But, I stand by the good Doctor. Always and forever, unless he shows me different.

What's the difference?

Funny how most of these "nationalist bigots" tend to be very het up about Mexican immigration, and not so much about Canadian immigration.

Of course.  Ron Paul is a supporter of CD and has praised it.

Me, I don't care what country or ethnic group socialist voters come from.  I don't want them here to out numbering those who want freedom.   This is why I say if there were no welfare check that alone would keep many socialist in their home countries.   Also, welfare is what most anti-immigration people use as an excuse to keep people out.  Take it away and that excuse goes with it.

After my work visa ran out in the UK.  The British authorities had no problem tracking me down and sending me home.  Even with a visa it was very difficult to find employment.  People thought I was taking the job of someone who wanted to work.  Sorry, but no native was going to work when they are paid so handsomely to stay home.  In my case I would never have been allowed to go on public assistance.  However, former British protectorates residents who flood into the UK can go on public assistance just like many of our immigrants.  The UK is very anti-immigration and have rules in place to keep people out.  Are they racist as they tend to kick out white Americans.

Great points. It also proves that not all anti-immigration people are racists. To group them all together and call them names is bigoted, which was my point in case anyone missed it.

Put any label on it you want, claim its about "protecting liberty" or stopping drain on welfare.

Criminalizing immigrants is immoral.

Its the same gun in the room as any other government. If you move to a country without a permit and they catch you, they deport you. If you resist deportation, you get killed.

If you pay a land owner rent, you should be able to live there, end of story.

Anything else is violence and against freedom.

No libertarian should be in favor of criminalizing victimless crimes, the idea that because we have a welfare state, immigration is now bad and shouldnt be allowed is the same pragmatic bullshit behind all Statism.

I agree criminalizing immigrants is immoral but it is not necessarily automatically racist.  I don't favor criminalizing victimless crimes.  I was only explaining the main excuse used by the vast majority of anti-immigration advocates.  Take away welfare and they lose an argument and it discourages socialist from immigrating.  It is also a low cost solution.  The welfare state was one reason why I wasn't allowed to remain in the UK.   The other was the false belief I was taking jobs from UK citizens.

So you want to promote freedom by allowing anti-freedom advocates migrate in mass?   Will it comfort you as these immigrants vote for more and more socialism and authoritarian governments that you freely allowed them to immigrate.   Reducing the flow of immigration as stated above doesn't have to mean using force.   But at this time the likelihood of eliminating social welfare is politically impossible with the current voting trends.  This is why the FSP as originally envisioned was so appealing in getting enough people of like politically leanings to one area to effectively end things like social welfare.

If you have been on any of the FSP forums the occasional NH troll will wine and cry about how FSP members should be barred from the state.  The fear a voting block which could put them out of a cushy government job.

Canada probably doesn't land in the top twenty of country of origin for immigrants to the US, so that may have something to do with it...

Asking the question didn't seem to cause any trouble.  The three of them responded, pretty much dismissing it and moved on.  I don't imagine that there are hard feelings.

I imagine he is playing to the people in Texas with his immigration stance, just as Rothbard and many at the Mises Institute do now, even thought they contribute much to the movement.  I think Hoppe has contributed a lot, despite his immigration views, and he is someone that I am not as certain about when it comes to racial issues influencing it.  I think it is interesting to see the foreigners living in the US complaining about the immigrants.  As for Hispanics, I know of a Hispanic guy in the local Ron Paul Meetup that I was a part of who seemed to always have a border patrol hat on.

As for what is currently being published under his name, the man in charge of what articles go onto the Campaign for Liberty site is a complete open borders market anarchist.

He also said so to the Motorhome Diaries guys.  He added that he is too much of a chicken to do it himself and runs for office because it is safer.

...or maybe like in really-reality land, there is some truth in the notion that continually diluting what's left of a somewhat educated population with uneducated & unskilled peoples might not be such a brilliant idea?

You guys make it seem like the majority of immigrants are gonna move here and join the FSP, become outstanding successful people, learn to love liberty and we'll all end up holding hands in our minarchist society. Derr.. chances are it'll continue as it has- more Instant Cash Checking shacks, more Wal-Marts, more cowboy hats and pointy boots available at the flea markets (ok so maybe that's a draw..) - and a larger base for political parties to manipulate for votes.

I'd like to see welfare gone just as much as any of ya. Anyone think that's realistic though?

The market will handle excesses in certain types of people who be able to make it.  Many have already left as the housing boom came to an end.

I don't trust the state to decide what types of people are the ones to allow in. The state grows by its nature.  It will likely allow in those that want to encourage its growth if it completely has its way.

As bad as the thinking of the average American today, I think I would prefer to take my chances with the average immigrant over the average native born.
