Post by: Russ84 on November 15, 2005, 07:24:28 PM
I was thinking about spreading these around my school. (I have a better quality version on my computer.)

awesome, but i dunno about posting it in my school because you have to get all types of approval.  Sorta worried about how school would take it too, but never know until you try i guess.

Christ, kid, just post the thing when no one's looking.  If there's a camera in the lobby where the bulletin board is (or even if there isn't), tape them in bathroom stalls, tuck them under wiper blades in the parking lot, tuck them into books in the library (frequently used ones, as well as any written by Ayn Rand, or about Thomas Jefferson, or that sort of thing), and so on.  Be creative.  And don't get caught.   8)

It's good and I don't want to complain because I couldn't do better. But it looks kind of unpolished.

I agree it looks a bit unpolished.  I could dabble around in Photoshop for a while and rebuild it, if anyone is actually going to use it.

Here's the prob with that.  i won't get in trouble for posting them up, but if I do it w/o approval they'll get torn down immediately.  So, It'd be in my best interest to get it approved so that they don't get torn down as fast.  Besides, i'd be able to repeatedly repost if I get it approved and could post it in all my classes instead of just 2.

Here's the problem with THAT.  If you ask permission, they'll know it's you -- thus, WHEN they say "no," you won't be able to post it AT ALL.  If you don't ask permission, and just post it around all sneaky-like, LET THEM BE TORN DOWN QUICKLY.  In the time that they're actually up, SOME people will see them.  If they find one in a book, for example, they're gonna look at it.  And it isn't just other kids you can reach -- you might inspire a faculty member who receives a report of something posted in one of the stalls of the boys' bathroom, for example.  Just in the off chance, you know?  You might get through to one, or three, or five people, and you'll never know whether you did or how many you reached, but at least there's a chance that way.

I went to a 'Best of Sacramento' party last night  http://www.sacmag.com/bestofsac.shtm
There were about 7000 poeple there and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to "Spread the word"
I printed out about 30 copies of the "Worlds Smallest Political Quiz" and wrote 'TheAdvocates.org' and 'FreeTalkLive.com" on each one.  I handed them out to people and left some here and there like vendor booths and other displays.  It was just me doing this so there was only so much I could do, but I did see people grab them off the booth and look at them.  Even some stick it in their pocket.  The ones that I handed to, I didnt really talk to them (wasn't really prepared for that).  In some cases, they were handing me a flyer so I said "lets trade" and gave them mine.  It was kind of a last minute idea.  It was either that or some Flying Spaghetti Monster flyers.  I also printed a couple of FTL flyers and left them at the radio stations booths.  There were a couple there, including a talk radio station.   I wanted to talk to them, but there were too many people already talking to them and they seemed pretty busy.
Maybe next time I can do a little more.

Considering they do have the right to tear anything off of our lockers like that, this'll be an interesting experiment.

How about slipping them INTO the lockers.  Most of them have that little grate that you can probably slip a piece of paper through.  Just hope that one of the teachers doesnt see you and think you're putting bombs in students lockers.

hadn't thought of that but with about 1000 lockers+ it'd be hard to pull off.

You don't need to put them into every locker.  Just put them into some.  Then some other day, put some into others.  Just keep working up to all of them.  Just try to get as many as possible.

What's the deal with "public" property? Are you actually allowed "legally" to post signs on it? For example, on a telephone poll, a town hall door or an SS office building?

Don't school lockers still have slits in the doors?  Why not just make business size cards with "www.freetalklive.com To the phones and to the fun," printed on them and slide them into the lockers?  Something of a less is more approach to get people curious and direct them to the web site.  This way you can get 10 to a sheet and reduce your cost.

Looking at the average locker, they'll find it at the end of school at the bottom or there will be, like, 5 million of them on the ground because people will pull their stuff out and not notice it.  But on lockers might work.  *begins thinking of odd schemes of getting the word out...*

A "printable" flier, becuase it takes a lot of ink and money to print black fliers.
Full Size jpg (http://home.comcast.net/~abgiants92//onlinestorage/FTL/FTL_flier.jpg)
Smaller jpg (http://home.comcast.net/~abgiants92//onlinestorage/FTL/FTL_flier_small.jpg)  For those on dial-up who just want to take a peak.
Phtoshop (.psd) file (http://home.comcast.net/~abgiants92//onlinestorage/FTL/FTL_flier.psd)  If you want to make any changes go ahead, just make sure that you post the new Phtoshop (.psd) file here.

Also going along with what Tobiah said, I will do this is central or eastern time (It says, "5-7 PM PST (8-10 ET)", right now)

It still costs a bit more since it's usually sold as specialty paper. But yeah, that would save a lot of ink.

Yeah, you'd have to print in a different color. There are some cheap thermal printers on eBay that can print in four colors of metallic ink (gold, silver, metallic magenta, metallic cyan) and even white with a special ink cartridge.

Thanks again Tobia for posting the above image, it's been put to good use!

I have posted about 400 of these flyers in downtown San Francisco this evening.
Mostly around the Civic Center, Market Street, and South of Market (SoMa).
I also handed one out to each of the 10 or so people who attended the San Francisco Libertarian Party meeting today.

And, today is my birthday  :D
I can honestly say, I spent it doing something I love -- being a Liberty activist!

You could try duct taping a white out pen to the printer cartridge.

Now that is funny   Is that suppose to be Bill Gates?

It's the BSD Daemon mascot for the BSD operating systems like FreeBSD and NetBSD.  It's screwing the Tux penguin who is the mascot for Linux operating systems.  BSD people think they're better then Linux people so they like to talk shit about us Linux users.  I like both Linux and BSD.  There is also a picture of the BSD Daemon holding tux up with a pitch fork.

Most of the web sites on the net is probably running on a FreeBSD server or similar.  Usually most people use Linux for the Desktop and BSD based systems for servers. Though that's not allways the rule.  Plenty of people also do it vise versa.

OS X the operating system for Mac users comes from Darwin, a BSD based system.  BSD was originally a UNIX system which was closed source.  So all the open source BSD's and the Linux kernel all come from some form of UNIX.  So almost all operating systems have common ancestors.

And now with the Macintels coming, the Holy Grail is upon us.

Case in point:  http://darwine.opendarwin.org/

Run Windows apps NATIVELY on Mac OS X?  Without needing to deal with the viruses, spyware, and instability of Windows itself?  Why, thank you, I think I shall ...

Ive been printing more and keeping a few in my back pocket.  I pull one out and drop it somewhere every now and then.  Fast Food Restaurants, Movie Theaters, Wal-mart, Malls, and other outings and dinner functions Ive been to.  Any time I go into one of the restrooms, I always leave one there too.  I'm sure with the number that Ive left around, a few have looked, and hopefully have gone to the sites.
