Title: Forums simplified.
Post by: FTL_Ian on May 21, 2015, 06:45:56 PM
Not that anyone except Libman will really care, but I removed some extraneous forums today, simplifying it somewhat.  Don't worry, all the posts are still here, just mostly here in General.

Thanks for being here!

Thank *you*, Ian, for keeping this BBS alive. And for giving it the throwback name "BBS"
I'm an old-time geek, I cut my teeth programming in assembly language on an 80x24 monchrome TTY and using cassette tapes for storage.
Ain't nothin' wrong with keeping the BBS alive, keeping the archive of all these posts, and who knows, maybe this will be a safety net of sorts when Facebook turns in-your-face Evil

I've always toyed around with actually launching a telnet BBS, but it's always seemed like more trouble than it would be worth.   Really they are only good for playing door games, it would seem.  That would be cool to have, but how many users would we really be able to expect?

Not that anyone except Libman will really care [...]

I cared 5 years ago.   *WAY* too much.  There should be a 12-step program for FTL-aholics like me.  :P

Perfectly reasonable.

Awesome!  I ran a dial-up "AL's SoftWare BBS" in Freehold, NJ in mid-1990s.  Tried several dozen different BBS hosting programs.  My favorite was Syncronet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronet).   Fun times!  But I've moved on.  8)

I have some old message archives (including a pre-libricide SQL dump of this BBS) in libman.org/msg (http://libman.org/msg/) (and some old code on GitHub (https://github.com/lbmn/libman.org/tree/master/old/2011/bbs)).  I was aiming at creating a static archive of all FSP-related forums, but never went further with it: depression, homelessness, etc...

I wish I had something to say. Numbers don't lie.

Numbers don't lie.

97.23% of numbers you see on the Internet originated in someone's ass.

What's your source?

Whatever happened to Taors?

Good to see you here, BJ and Blackie.  There's no doubt this forum is dead.  Oh well.

More like forum was turned into a stinking, rotting corpse.

Does a bear shit in the woods and then mushrooms grow on top of it? Because if so that is you, yes.
