Feds Ban Children's Books
« on: August 05, 2009, 03:32:16 PM »

http://digg.com/politics/Law_Prohibits_Sale_of_Children_s_Books

"A law that was meant to protect the children seems to have had some adverse consequences. Under the guidance of the law federal officials are now advising that all children’s books published before 1985 be considered unsafe and may even be unlawful to sell."

The books from before 1985 are also supposed to be pulled from all library and school shelves, if I remember correctly... read an article a couple months ago.

Interesting how they didnt pick the year 1984.

I hope they call this: Project 451.

I just asked my wife, who is a librarian, about this and she said it is true that they are supposed to "cull" these books from the library, although almost no school libraries are doing so. Most would have to discard half of their collection to comply with this idiocy. She also said it is her understanding that you only run afoul of this regulation if the books are sold. Just more insanity from the people who are "protecting" our children. But hey, it's easier to revise history if you can get rid of the evidence! I can't say I'm one bit surprised at the irony of a government that "protects" children from a slight risk of miniscule lead exposure while they consider making 2 shots of a mercury-containing flu vaccine mandatory for the same children. Appearance of motion is all it takes to keep the sheep mesmerized a little longer while they slip out the door with the loot.

We'll just have to see if it gets to the level of punishing parents for allowing their children to read such "dangerous" books. Or will a child be disciplined, and the parents charged for a "toxic cleanup" if the child brings such a book to the government indoctrination center?

Technically this applies to anything, not just books. I'm sure I have some information about it at my office that I haven't read.

http://city-journal.org/2009/eon0212wo.html

Quote
...The problem is the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), passed by Congress last summer after the panic over lead paint on toys from China. Among its other provisions, CPSIA imposed tough new limits on lead in any products intended for use by children aged 12 or under, and made those limits retroactive: that is, goods manufactured before the law passed cannot be sold on the used market (even in garage sales or on eBay) if they don’t conform. The law has hit thrift stores particularly hard, since many children’s products have long included lead-containing (if harmless) components: zippers, snaps, and clasps on garments and backpacks; skateboards, bicycles, and countless other products containing metal alloy; rhinestones and beads in decorations; and so forth. Combine this measure with a new ban (also retroactive) on playthings and child-care articles that contain plastic-softening chemicals known as phthalates, and suddenly tens of millions of commonly encountered children’s items have become unlawful to resell, presumably destined for landfills when their owners discard them. Penalties under the law are strict and can include $100,000 fines and prison time, regardless of whether any child is harmed....

Amazon Marketplace sucks government cock!

But I'm sure one can find a site that doesn't, and it might even have an affiliate offer as well.

Wait, you are suggesting that by banning a rape game, Amazon is in league with the feds? Try and remember back when you were just a normal kid with normal thoughts and think about that for a second.
