I was speaking in terms of keyboard usage.  In terms of anal grammatical correctness, a hyphen is shorter than a dash and is used to join compound-words and separate syl-la-bles of a single word.  That distinction has disappeared with the advent of typewriters, however, because no one wants to use "-" for a hyphen, "--" for a minus sign, "---" for a regular dash, "----" for a decrement operator, "-----" for an en dash, "------" for an em dash, "-------" for a horizontal bar, "--------" for a double decrement operator, and so on.

Ya, now I see why everyone says fuck you libman. . .they are being nice.

Sleep deprivation does not suit me well.

I worked 3rd shift for a while, midnight to 8:30am.

After about two months, the manager changed me to evenings out of pity.

They guy they replaced me with had thyroid problems and would occasionally fall asleep, but his asleep was more functional than my "awake".

I worked the 11-7:30 shift for 18 mos, as long as they didn't change it, I was good, but I'd die if they threw in a 10am-5pm on me. . ..

When I was a kid my dad worked a swing shift. I am not sure how he did it, it was rough.

As someone who started out as a typesetter a long time ago, it's a nice blast from the past, seeing "the rules".  Being a stickler in printed material or formal online articles is one thing, but I see what goes on here as casual conversation. Have a swig of whatever tax avoidance, vegan moonshine you're homebrewing, unbunch your panties, and get the hell over it.

(1)  I only drink water.

(2)  Tax resisters should ideally wear long-johns made from untaxed hemp, but I haven't attained that level of underwear perfection just yet.

(2)  "Tax avoidance" is a deceitful practice that still requires filing papers and kissing government butt.  What I'm doing is "tax resistance".

(4)  I don't really care about dashes, I'm just brainfucking with Rillion.  She has very complicated feelings for me.

Is this water from a well, or are you supporting the local government-operated water department?

I see what you did there, but it could be argued that Unicode‐supporting applications—some with automatic character replacement—have changed things over the past 10–15 years.

When typing in Word, doing a double hyphen makes it turn into a dash.  Here, it doesn't, so it looks somewhat weird-- I don't especially care.
