I find it annoying.  I can read more than 1 sentence or word at a time.  I stopped after "republican" because I felt it would take all fucking day.

Agreed. Snore, gotta leave the page. The only other links are to submit an email for whatever reason and to click on the only image (again, for no apparent reason).

Sure its creepy.  Conspiratorial by design.  Everyone who looks at this stuff has at least a mild paranoid streak.  That will prevent a large part of the audience from providing their email.  

What they should do is just have you enter through a captcha, if they want to provide some sense of inclusion.  Then later, if you want more, and you are sufficiently titillated, join the newsletter.
