Cool Kid

Crazy awesome kid speaks 10 languages (including accents, listen to him say "dollar"), and is a great salesperson. With the help of his grandmother he supports his whole family (11-12 people).

Quote
Ravi, a young Gujarati boy, now known as the Lingo Kid all over the internet, sells the peacock feathers his grandmother makes to tourists at Mumbai's Hanging Gardens.

He was eight when he started selling feathers and could not speak English. In a few years Ravi could rattle off a sale in more languages than the Pope -- and with a faster tongue and sharper accent. He's full of fun facts too, such as the seasons in which various nationalities prefer to travel. Spaniards and Italians he says, love to visit Mumbai in the monsoon.

This year, at age 15, he was interviewed again by the same Englishman named Sammy, going on record to say that he didn't want to go to school, because there he could learn just English, whereas out on the street he's picked up 10 different tongues.

If the ingenuity of Mumbai's street hawkers and pavement peddlers needed a poster boy, Ravi the Lingo Kid would be it.

on the QWERY keyboard, the letter "L" appears directly adjacent to the letter "K"

methinks this is just a typo.  thread title should read "Cool Kid"  ???

This is pretty common actually. While I was in a bazaar in Egypt and the merchants could tell where people were from just by looking at them. And they would speak in the tourist's language. I heard English, French, Italian, German, and Arabic. I threw them off a little, they spoke to me in Spanish. One guy even yelled out to me "Mexicano!".

Oh yes it is.  I'm drinking Samuel Smith's Tadcaster Taddy Porter tonight.  Delicious.

I remember watching a video interview of a similar kid in Istanbul that sold stuff to tourists. He picked up various european and near-eastern languages from his work.
