Commodore 64 topic.
« on: July 29, 2010, 03:44:42 PM »

This is the general thread for C64 stuff. I'm just really getting into it with VICE for Windows (emulator), and I can easily see myself in the far future in a Scavenger World only having a C64 as my main computer.

First I learn of Linux for the C64, now I learn of Twitter for it.

I've considered buying a vintage commodore 64 before. Its a part of computing history, and broke barriers in home computing. I think a lot of the first attempts to do home automation were done on those.

Dude, I thought you were a spambot for like a week. You posted like a spambot. You failed the Turing test.

I worked with a guy in the early '80s at a computer shop in SoCal.  He used an SWTPC s100 bus system to drive a C64 as a video card, basically.  Really great motorola graphic chip set, for it's day.  Did some ray trace stuff that wowed.

I still have my C64, and the games. I wonder if it all still works.

I had a bunch of games.....one I used to like was called "California Games" ....I'd usually play the haki-sac (spelling), and surfing games. There was also one called, "Olympic Games", and for some reason they had a barrel jumping game which I used to like... and that game also had Sumo Wrestling, which was cool.

There was also "The Caveman Olympics" game, which was totally hilarious.

If you care enough about spending the dough there's a C64 cart out there that you can put an SD card in and load games off of that.

Oregon Trail is nearly 40 years old.

Literally. It was first developed in 71.

I always liked the soccer game cartridge. Commodore Soccer or something. Its sometimes more playable than even some of the most recent soccer games.

I'm more of an Amiga nut myself. I still have 3 of them and about 5 shoe boxes full of games, all of which still works. I have WinUAE though and enjoy reliving the days of Lemmings and Lotus Turbo Challenge among others.

I wish I'd kept my old Laser 128 (Apple IIc clone). The first game I bought and best game I ever played was "Seven Cities of Gold." Amazing how the designers could do so much with so little.

Which Amiga models?

2 A500 and a A1200.

Never got my hands on the holy grail - The A4000 but I can emulate one on winUAE so I can live with that ;)

People.
You have entered a world that is not for the faint of heart.

My brother sends an Atarii cartridge around the world as a hobby.

He has almost every game and system ever made.

You have much to learn.

My best friend collects video games.

She has very little in the way of vintage computer games though.

For other old video games, the forums at digitpress.com make for some very good reading.
