Cheapest way- sign up for a cheapy hosting account. Sometimes they come with a one year free registration.

You can also reserve the name for multiple years.. the more years you buy, the lesser the fee.

Avoid add-ons like Privacy Guard (usually about $8 per year).. avoid any extra things the regristrars may offer ya.

I have noticed with .info domains they are blocked on social networking websites and you can't link them.  Might account for why they only cost .89 cents.  I did a spoof website of a political website using their .com name with .info  it was worth it just to annoy the other website.  And they couldn't do a thing because it was an obvious spoof trashing the original site.

I don't know about MediaWiki, but I have installed other wikis in less than an hour. Some only take about 15 mins or so. It may depend what/who you are using for a host.

For .com and .org domains, use GoDaddy and Google "GoDaddy Promo Codes" first.
