Well in this case, I suspect it makes sense to actually built at full gravity and actually launch from it too. If one can alter the Higgs Field it's entirely possible for such a mechanism to reduce mass of an object and then 'pealing' away from the center of gravity with minimal thrust and velocity.

Still doesn't jive with the fact that the ships being built in movies that took place "Later" were built in space.

Also, Klingon Condoms.

space elevator.  reminds me of the tether that peter f. hamilton had in his nights dawn trilogy

there is actually a book called the physics of star trek.  they describe how most everything will work.  no teleportation, though

Oddly, there is a precedence in the TNG series. There are clips from one of the seasons where the saucer section of the Enterprise was on Mars for Utopia Plantia(sp?) construction fields. Roddenbury fucked up his own ideas from the get go. But I would still argue just building on the surface makes more sense when you consider that gravitational modification being the principle means of locomotion and maneuvering. *shrugs*

well, i understand what you are saying, but building in 0 grav would allow for easier maneuvering of more massive pieces and you would be able to design the ship in any form you wanted.  there would not be any requirements for fighting in atmosphere

Not if you intend for it to also potentially 'land' in full gravity.

right right.  but like i stated before, the enterprise is not aerodynamically sound.  roddenbury knew nothing about flying in atmosphere.

still, its all fantasy, so its all good.
