Can you buy this?
« on: September 17, 2010, 10:02:04 PM »

    * A spy watch or other jewelry with:
    * battery life and storage to record audio for 24 hrs OR
    * battery life and storage to record video for 12 hrs
    * all recordings are encrypted

This device would record your entire life and encrypt it. Optionally uploading to the internet with the press of a button.A phone isnt as good as a piece of jewellery such as a watch which is actually strapped to you. When are the cops allowed to remove something that is actually attached to you?

Not encrypted, but it exists.

Link?
It has to be encrypted ala truecrypt to prevent any access to it in any way. Call it liberty insurance :)

You can truecrypt it after you load it onto your computer. Also, video doesnt necessarily mean audio (which may be illegal when combined (of course :( )).

Im thinking we need our own personal satellites or unmanned drones that watch our backs 24/7.
Obviously battery technology isnt up to par for onboard encryption and life streaming. Maybe solar powered would work...especially on a watch.

The Looxcie Bluetooth camcorder/headset is the closest I've seen to what you describe. Four hours of automatic recording at 15 fps 480×320. 30 second clips. Instant upload button.

Still doesnt have real time encryption, which is what you would want if the pigs decide to gank you device. If they dont have evidence of audio recording, theres nothing much they can do to get you on those wiretapping laws.

Still a pretty cool gadget though.

Isn't the whole point to have recordings for public posting?  Seems to me like encryption wouldn't actually be worth that much, except maybe to help anonymity, but I still say transparency and realtime sharing are better.

Still, feel free to contact them and ask about new features and/or hacking.

Is it still wire tapping if you are in a public place?  I thought there was a supreme court ruling that said there is no presumption of privacy in public places.

Encrypt it on your phone....

Imagine this scenario...everything you wore outside had some form of camera in it...your shoes....your hat....a button on your coat...in your pen....in a watch....and there were small wireless transmitters all over town picking up the signal from all these devices and encrypting it to distributed storage vaults online as well as live streaming your life to qik or youtube...do you think the cops would be paranoid?Do you think they would be able to shut down every single camera? I would like to see an experiment like this  :D

Radley Balko has a pretty good article in Reason about different ways to record the cops.  Worth a read.
