The AMP Program
As discussed on tonight's show (28 Feb 06) I believe that many of the BBS members are mooching liberty ("bludging" in oz). The situation is analogous to the unworkable socialism of the early pilgrims where members of the society would leech off the efforts of others.
I fully support the voluntary nature of the AMP Program. I also relish that participation in Free Talk Live is free. I also understand that $3 a month is a lot of money to some people.
What I will not believe is that all 83% of BBS members are too destitute to afford $3 per month!
If you can't afford $3/month then fine, that's your reality. If you support other Freedom activities then you know you're already doing your bit. If you can't afford financial contributions so you give your time then you also know that you're doing your bit. The magic is that each of us only has to do a little bit to have an enourmous effect.
If you are doing nothing but whingeing and complaining or just getting off on your own gums flapping then you are bludging off the rest of us that actually do something.
If you are not living in poverty, or supporting Freedom already, then it is just unwillingness or sheer laziness on your behalf that you are not a member of the AMP program. If you can't hold up your hand and say that you know in your heart that you are supporting Freedom and Liberty then frankly you're wasting everybody's time and you belong back in the cesspit with the sheeple and drones.
How can I find $3 a month?
- If you give to a charity then cut it back by $3
- If you buy a hamburger and chips once a month then stop eating your Freedom and give $3
- If you give your kids pocket money then cut it back by $3 a month and help buy Freedom for their future
- If you buy a six-pack of beer each month then just buy four and give the $3
- If you buy a packet of cigarettes each month then cut back and give the $3
- If you subscribe to all the cable tv channels then cut back $3 worth
When exactly do you think is the time to start doing something: Tomorrow?; Next week?; Next Month?; "When I get around to it"? The time is right now!
Sad Excuses
- "but it's too hard" - rubbish, you're being lazy. Pull your finger out and get fair dinkum.
- "but $3 won't make a difference" - piffle, it makes all the difference to a collective movement.
- "but $3 is all I have for a little luxury each month" - how much luxury will you have in a police state?
Doing one little thing is all you need to do so that you can hold your head high and say "Yes, I'm actually doing something for Freedom and Liberty"

In my opinion, you're a poser unless you have a concrete plan to join us New Hampshire within the next 2 years. ;)

Going to New Hampshire is an even greater step up. I'm promoting that doing something will get things done and that doing nothing keeps you in the cesspit.
Going to NH can get things done even faster.
While I never say never, I have no immediate plans to leave Australia for New Hampshire. I will continue my efforts here on home soil.

I listen to NPR (National Public Radio - listener funded radio) every day, and I've never NEVER given them a penny. Why do I refuse to donate money to a station I listen to everyday? Because it enrages me to hear this government mouthpiece of a station drooling over the latest democrat plan to redistribute my wealth. So I don't give them any money, in the hopes that they atrophy and die from lack of funds.
I listen to Free Talk live every day and I AMP them for $3 a month, even though I don't agree with Ian's view on everything, or for that matter, Manwich's views. And why am I not amping them for $5/month? Becuase I only agree with about 80% of Ian's phrasing and treatment of certain callers (cranks), I am completely for the concept of Liberty and plan on moving to NH this fall (my wife is pregnant and wants to have the baby here) where I can get started in knocking on doors and calling senators or running for office or any one of a million things that may help us take back our country from the fascists.
Anyway, I decided to pay $3 after listening to the saturday shows for a month, which led to listening to all of the shows for the week, so I listen every day now.
I think if you don't want to pay $3 don't pay $3, because Ian wants to give it away for free.
If you don't like the show enough to pay, don't listen.
However, if you don't agree with Ian on 15% of the issues, then try donating 85% of $3 ($2.55) or decide a formula that works for you.

If you've paid state and/or federal taxes, you've helped fund NPR/PBS. You have just chosen not to make charitable contributions in addition to the forced funding.

Wooo-hooo!!! That's awesome news, both about the move and about the baby ;)
You'll find the Free Staters are a very child-friendly bunch. We moved here when our son was under 1 year old. He's now 2, and loves playing in the snow (of which there hasn't been any for a few weeks now :( )
We take him to all the FSP meetings, he has a great time and the other Porcupines are very accomodating.
Quite a few of the Free Staters have children, of various ages. Quite a few Free Staters have also gotten married since moving here, and I expect more babies are on the way soon :D
One last thing -- did you sign the First 1000 (http://freestateproject.org/first1000/) pledge yet?

Damn near every bank now offers debit cards - it looks like a credit card, swipes like a credit card (except you enter a PIN instead of signing), even has a VISA or MC logo, but withdraws money straight from your checking account. I've had one since the summer before my freshman year in HS and can't imagine how inconvenienced I'd be without it.

See, I make about $22,000 a year with three children, and pay for full time university tuition at a 4 year university, which runs about $5000 a year.
I still manage to find $25 a month for Ian and Manwich, give away another $250 a month in charity, own a Civic and a Lexus, three >3.0 GHz computers, and have less than $17,000 total debt, including school loans and one of the cars. If I can do it, ANYONE can.
The standard response is that I'm more dedicated than the drug addicts and I need to support higher taxes to help them be like me....

Your keyword of "dedication" is spot on. It's interesting what even a little bit of self discipline and persistence can achieve. It's also interesting how much power you get from taking personal responsibility.

Awww, I still have three years of college to go through, and then I'll goto New Hampshire (though... I go to Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Mass... commuting would be a bitch). Or I could take Ian's advice and screw college.... (or not)
