I'm surprised no one's mentioned Full Metal Jacket yet.

Watched that for the first time after basic training, when i was partisipating in my 'only once' after basic enertainment.  it was freekin pretty good, but their basic seemed pretty easy going.

after basic training

Ignored.

In retrospect I'm starting to think it might not have been a good idea, not gunna lie.

Speaking of war flicks, perhaps someone here could help me with figuring out the name of a war flick that I saw years and years ago...on some random daytime weekend TV channel.

The only things that I remember about it was that it was about Vietnam...but the coolest part of the movie was that they kept going back and forth between what was going on for kids at home, and then what was going on with the kids in Vietnam. Any thoughts?

not kidding, I love the character of Rambo!  Who I really like is the Coloniel. . . the oneliners he had in that movie are fantastic:

"you just need to remember one thing
 yeah, what's that?...

lots of bodybags"

I liked the evil bad Vietmanese guy.  The one that got shot with the arrow.  I saw him a show recently and I yelled at the TV that he wasn't expendable.

I'm not sure Hollywood has ever done it better than The Great Escape.
