American Express vs Medical Cannabis

Ever since Costco switched to American Express (from Discover) as their sole credit card vendor in-store, I have been an American Express cardholder.

I was incensed to hear on the show about the new American Express policy of not doing business with medical cannabis vendors.  As soon as I got home, I called them and informed their customer retainage department (the one people call when they threaten to cancel their cards) of the following:

• I have been a regular customer for over a decade.
  
• I have used their card as my first choice for most of that period.
  
• I have charged thousands of dollars per year, sometimes per month (when I travel on business) on their card.
  
• I have plenty of credit cards in my wallet.
  
• I would never use any credit card for a medical cannabis purchase anyway, but,
  
• I will now move their card to last in the cue, using instead, every other card, as my first, second and third choices.
  
• I will continue to keep this policy at least as long as their policy of discrimination against medical cannabis vendors continues.

I strongly urge every other liberty lover, whether or not you are a patient or regardless of how you feel about cannabis, to do the same.

Amex won't give a shit about getting 1 letter from you.  If you really want to make a splash go to Costco and load up 2 carts with tons of little shit items until you have like 5 grand worth of stuff.  After they ring up and tell you they only take Amex tell them you are boycotting Amex for their stand on legal pot and walk out.  Not only do they lose a 5 grand sale but then they have to restock all the  little items in the cart.  Let Costco put the pressure on Amex.

I'd rather punish Amex more directly.  By using the card much less, I will be doing so.  I will probably consider commenting directly to Costco regarding the issue, though.  Maybe I'll go back to paying there by check.
