I'm not sure the song would work these days. After all, Arlo was violating rights by illegally dumping garbage.
-
Had to comment on this one... I LOVE "Alice's Restaurant". I really like the newer version with the bit about Nixon in it. Makes you wonder. Of course I was in HS when this came out and it brings back memories of the 60's and the war. The street protests. The relative freedom we had then that has become so foreign to us now...
-
Mmmm, Hippie chicks.....
My Dad dug that song. I heard it as a kid but didn't really get it then, understand it now, thanks.
Hope every one had a good Thanksgiving.

Yes, but he acknowledged that they did wrong and suggested that being ordered to clean everything up would be appropriate. He doesn't pretend that they didn't do something wrong.

oh, jesus christ already
can't we have a little fun without you fucking people over-analyzing everything?
you fucking ruin the moment

I've probably been listening to this song longer than you've been alive. Go fuck yourself, preferably in four-part harmony when it comes around on the guitar.
-
I am guessing you two are around the same age. I never could understand why some like to leave their age a mystery then call people on being "young and stupid" or "old and crabby" later.
-
Well, I just turned sixty, and so am officially “old.” I was drafted shortly after this song came out. Even though I’d already joined the Air Force, I still had to go down to the induction center and follow those endless lines, which are exactly as Arlo describes. The song had a little more meaning when conscription was breathing down your neck!

thanks mike.
you, i'll listen to.
unfortunately, rillion is being a blo-bag twat, once again
''i have a degree in <insert-useless-4-yr-collegiate-program<, so i will painfully deconstruct this song for you, and provide you with an unsolicited analysis forthwith, and bloviate about a time & place that i know nothing about & was ,most likely, still shitting yellow when it was written.
