On a lighter note, I think we've just witnessed John Shaw's 15,000th post on this forum.  Almost as many as me, but it's not the size that matters.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Sounds like what this thread is all about actually.

Okey dokey then. Fine. You want him, he's yours. I won't say another word about him unless he directly attacks me.

You heard it here first. For my part, Alex can do whatever the fuck he wants so long as he doesn't make a single fucking comment about me, personally.

Bets on:

A. How long that'll last.
B. How long you put up with him.

Good luck.

Eh, troll or not matters not to me. At least he is contributing.

I agree with this post.

Yeah, right. And how long did it take before fuckface put his foot in it?

http://bbs.freetalklive.com/index.php?topic=32582.0

12 hours. So you go right ahead and get suckered. As for me, I'm gonna sit back and watch. I'll watch when he deletes posts that antagonize people and insult them after they complain, and watch him accuse them of lying. I'll sit back and watch while he clutters up the front page with nothing but Alex Libmen created necro threads, and I'll sit back and watch while dumb asses get suckered into responding to him like he actually wants to have a real conversation rather than a place to make bitter, sniping responses meant to hurt and insult people, and I'll sit back and watch when I continue to get regular PMs from people who, at least five times a week, ask me when someone is gonna do something about him.

So yeah, again, you want it, you got it. You deserve it, too.

As stated elsewhere, I now believe hate-threads such as this need to be approached constructively and diplomatically to identify any legitimate grievances that may be behind them, to admit wrongdoing on my part or to defend my behavior as appropriate.

If my replies here are deleted then they will be resurrected elsewhere, and if my attempts to elevate the constructiveness of the discussion are drowned out in an even greater flood of juvenile confrontational rudeness then these people's response will be documented as such yet again.  You can conclude a chess game by smashing in your opponent's skull and walk away feeling good afterwards, but you will not be remembered as a great chess player.  Only the fools will be fooled.

The dude is a fucking troll. He has been a troll. He is a troll. He will always be a troll.

What does the word "troll" mean to you?

I've only used it in describing myself as humorous self-deprecation (i.e. I really do look like a creature from Nordic folklore in my outward appearance).  I do often go on what I relativistically call "socialist forums" and engage people in debate, but I don't consider those campaigns to be a destructive or an intellectually shallow practice, quite to the contrary.  The same cannot be said of this forum, where people's political opinions are usually much closer to my own, and which I use for less confrontational but more creativity-driven discussions.  Isn't that what a forum is for?

If you respond to anything he says, in any thread, you have been trolled.

Your accusations are an effective thought-terminating cliché that, if not clarified, can be applied to label anyone a heretic for any irrational reason.  Your accusations may be based on your personal reputation, which in turn is subject to their validity, but thus-far they have not been based on reason.

He is not participating on this BBS.  He is infecting it.

I am a part of this BBS, as are you.  I've participated in thousands of engaging conversations here, I've read countless conversations that I did not contribute to (which I've actually started doing a few months before I created my first account here), and I've posted many things here that others have read and appreciated but did not respond to (yet), and more people will probably read and may choose to reply in the future.  Some people (and bots) may even choose to copy-and-post my writings elsewhere, which too is a legitimate function of an Internet forum.  I have posted a hundred different genres of content here, but none of them were intended to do anything but promote the mutually-beneficial relationship between myself and this BBS.

On an average night, he bumps five threads, all of which he has created and almost no one has responded to. They are often months or years old.

On an average night I revive more like 0.5 old threads (i.e. a yearly average of the number of posts I make where the previous post is more than 90 days old), but I almost always do so by adding other relevant content to that thread, thus increasing its value.  Some people here agree that having too many threads on the same topic fragments the conversation and lowers its quality, and there are other benefits of "necroing" as well.  It elevates the value of this forum from a flood of throw-away one-liners into living literature that can have lasting value!

You are welcome to have a narrower view of how this forum should ideally be used, but your vocal "chronological snobbery" has no objective basis.  You are welcome to ignore me, to install server-side forum add-ons to make ignoring "necroed" threads easier (I'd gladly help with that effort, as well as some other features that would reduce the need to "necro", like tagging), etc - but bitching and whining about it every time benefits no one!

He is a fucking attention whore and a blight.

If I was just an "attention whore" then I could easily be a politically useful writer or a college professor.  I could have also made a strategic effort to be agreeable and popular here (ex. guns, meat, pop culture, photoshops, fake humility, and breasts), but that would have a much lower philosophical value to me personally.  Replace the word "attention" with "self-expression" and the word "whore" with "swinger", and you'll be a step closer to the truth.  My creative output may be original, but my tactics are in no way unusual or deliberately destructive.  All human relationships exchange value for value - without this interpersonal communication would be impossible.

My presence on this forum brings value that, although nuanced, cannot simply be dismissed as "blight".  I contribute a lot of creative and well-intentioned ideas to this forum that some people may appreciate, and others are free to ignore.  I am one of the most prolific posters here, although I agree that the literary value of my content is purely subjective (as is yours or anyone else's).  I also have a tendency to backlink to my threads on this forum from other sites (more so in between any major anti-Libman hate threads).

There is a whole list of reasons why my threads may be more thought-provoking than reply-provoking.  People are far more likely to be vocal in their rejection of something unusual than in their appreciation of it.

Would this be acceptable his self proclaimed asexual ultimate philosophy of life?
Because it's not another living being, there's no interpersonal, so inanimate may be okay.

[...]

Dude wrote a two page long post describing how he was going to dismember and fuck the various parts of my mother on a steel table covered in medical equipment. He makes inflammatory comments, waits until people respond, then edits his comments to make the other person look nuts.

Please, if you don't know the history, STFU already. He's a goddamned troll.

I'm getting a little tired of people giving that fuckface a pass because he occasionally apologizes after going too far.

I definitely did go too far in that instance.  Although my violent rants (most of which have now been deleted) could not be reasonably interpreted as anything other than fantasy and an attempt at artistic superlativism, they have nonetheless reflected poorly on the movements that I try to associate myself with.  Their literary value on an average free speech forum could have been defended, but their use in the context in which I've used them cannot be.  The instance where I've deleted a post and jokingly pretended that it never existed needs to be understood in context, but it is nonetheless also an example of behavior that I now consider unacceptable of myself.

So I stand guilty on that serious accusation, and I never intended to simply say I'm sorry and move on.  I've said that "I accept the responsibility for my stupidity, I recognize the legitimacy of the damage to my reputation (or what's left of it) that my stupidity has caused, and I recognize my responsibility to change my behavior and make amends moving forward".  My behavior did change, but I recognize that this isn't enough.  I do have a good idea on how I can make tangible amends (i.e. pay restitution) in regard to the Free State Project, but my guilt toward John Shaw's mother currently has no possible recourse that I am aware of.  Perhaps this is something I could bring up if/when the antagonism toward me cools down.

Okey dokey then. Fine. You want him, he's yours. I won't say another word about him unless he directly attacks me.

I deserve the right to address the accusations that you've attempted to present against me.  Aside from that, when was the last time I've initiated communication with you or about you?  I honestly cannot remember...

Alex, be honest. You're a fucking troll at times. I've had meaningful conversations with trolls on SL too, but that doesn't make up for their shitty trolldom, nor does your limited capacity to contribute to the forums here make up for yours. So either ditch the trolldom or ditch the meaningful conversations; you can't have both and get anyone's respect.

All of Libmans stuff is under old names.  Good luck finding it if you're just a casual user.

It is inaccurate to say that my stuff is under "old names", as if anything I've posted here was ever anonymous or deceptive.  My external backup script easily merges the different accounts I've had here into one user ID, and it is also very easy to search through this forum via Google.  I would only welcome any efforts to merge all my accounts, which I believe could be done with just a few easy SQL statements, and after which it would no longer have an overall benefit for me to cycle accounts ever again.

It is true that I often "cycle accounts" (usually as a gag upon reaching 1000 posts, and a few times due to emotional mood-swings, but for other reasons as well), but I've used my real name here since day one, and I never used more than one account at a time.  Using my real name here has been a great sacrifice due to many coworkers and clients Googling my name, and I've experienced a couple of mood-swings about that as well, but only very briefly.  Once I've cycled into an account called "Phant", which was based on my AIM alias, but I've identified myself as Alex Libman almost immediately.  I used the "AL the Inconspicuous" login name after I've experienced automated rejection trying to create an account with "Libman" in the login string, and I've always changed my "display name" to "Alex Libman" right off the bat.

I noticed he's been busy - deleted a bunch of convo in the trash heap.  I think more than anything that tells volumes about his so-called beliefs.  I can understand pruning a thread when you get angry at it being derailed.  But if the topic is general pointless bullshit, destroying it is kinda weird.  That means all the people who each spent a few minutes contemplating and responding to your strange little pet-concept de'jour have no value, regardless of the fact they may have made a relevant and thoughtful contribution.

There are very few things that I hate more than destroying information and personal self-expression, both of myself and others.  I've actually worked as an assistant archivist helping to digitize the secret diaries of various Soviet / Russian dissidents, many of whom have been killed or died in prison, and some were still imprisoned at the time.  The idea of someone's information just being destroyed, reaped out of its rightful place in the annals of human history, is horrifying to me...

I do not use the "Hijack Free Zone" often, and I do not use it lightly, and never without a reasonable warning.  In all my time here I've only had 29 threads there:  24 as "Alex Libman" (not counting one by an impersonator), 3 as "Alex Libman 15", 1 as "Ghost of Alex Libman", and 1 as "Phant".  Most of them are from 2008 (when I crawled into a bottle for a while), and many of which were placed there preemptively with no one's posts ever being deleted.  Almost all of the posts that I've deleted over the years have been repetitive one-lines, which sometimes flooded in by the thousand (i.e. my stupid Bob Barr thread, which I now do regret, but nonetheless defend as having been not too unreasonable at the time).  I've also at times utilized PM'ing and thread locking instead of deleting posts, because I recognize that "script wars" (with you-know-who auto-spamming and me auto-deleting) waste Web hosting resources and can make this forum unresponsive for regular use.

So, this brings us to the most recent incident of me deleting anything, which is the only one in a heck of a long time.  One man's "pointless bullshit" may be an other's highest example of human insight for which an online forum can ever be used!  I start some threads on this forum that document what are important life-changing events for me.  I don't keep a photo album of precious family memories like some people do, my previous memories are documented on forums such as this.  It is like a personal diary that is immune from ever being thrown into the memory hole, and is optionally open to other people's comments if they choose to make them, but within reason and with the possibility of a de-hijacking cleanup being forewarned.  I often mention and link to these kinds of threads, sometimes years later and sometimes in much more serious contexts, where the humorous nature of this forum would be less understood.  Those future readers may have a much more difficult time looking past the insults and the meme spam than I do...

"Coming out of the closed" as a sexual minority is never easy, but no group is degraded more by modern society than asexuals like myself.  My use of the "Hijack Free Zone" with the thread admitting and announcing my asexuality was reasonable, and it achieved the result I desired.  I even kept some of the less disruptive insults, and only removed the bigotry that has clearly passed any threshold of human decency.

I agree with this post.

I agree with the post as well.

When Libman has something interesting to say I will respond if not I ignore him.   People can only control themselves and not others so it is more about how you react than any outrageous thing Libman could post.  He has posted some thoughtful commentary with links and well thought out arguments.

yet another retarded example of Luca Homozzi aka Lord Gaymungus throwing around violent talk. He tried similar shit on me, a little while back. This fucking moron has already been shitheaded and banned on here....he's been banned at least once on other libertarian message boards, too. He is also delusional when he figures that members here find his sort of talk acceptable.

If anyone should be getting trashed on....it should be this fucking douchebag Homozzi.
