Every shooting is avoidable. What evidence was there that this guy was going to go off his nut? Probably as much as thousands of other military members. Some will go kill crazy, most probably won't.

Humungus is rightfully complaining about one meathead of another sort. A few articles have mentioned in passing that his associates in the military were aware that he was a potential threat, but that they decided not to set any complaints in motion for fear of being (mis)labeled a bigot. That's where Humungus is correct in saying that, in a way, due to the PC environment, people choose to dilly-dally away from being critical of muslims.

Should he have been given special consideration and granted an early release? Sure- but a dishonorable on, just as any other person who signed up willingly. He could have just gone AWOL. Ultimately the responsibility lies with the shooter.

I went AWOL, and they didn't kick me out for that.

When I finally got the army to kick me out, I didn't get a dishonorable discharge, it was a general discharge under honorable conditions or some shit like that. I'm not sure what you have to do to get a dishonorable discharge.

My mom's first husband went AWOL from the Navy for years and he didn't even get a dishonorable discharge.
