It figures.  How many years do you suppose the kid would have gotten if he'd done the same to the cop?  (Remember, it's misdemeanor "assault on a peace officer" if a cop hurts himself while arresting you--I was once charged with it, but the charges were dropped...what's a deliberate act get you?)  I'm guessing it would be a "felony," and the kid wouldn't get to plead down because they'd throw extra crap in to "plead" away.
