Am I the only one who thinks this is a total burn Whenever Ian says that it isn't a Beauty contest, then basically says that we have all kinds of women- big or little, young or old, (reading between the lines here)beautys or not.....
I know its not his intention, but still- BURN!
-
Huh?
-
I think he's trying to say that some of the ugly people on the shrine could possibly take offense to it, however, I only speak English so I'm not completely sure.
-
Huh?
I don't think this applies to you.
-
As I understand it, the shrine has a dual purpose. The college age hotties to attract the male listeners, and the demographic hotties to attract program directors & point out the wide range of advertising possibilities for a local station. I am well aware into which category I fit.
Yes, there is probably some room for improvement in the way Ian phrases his shrine promos; but they are nowhere near as bad as having you point it out in full color. Thank you so much for the reminder Jiperly.
-
I am well aware into which category I fit.
Come now, I think DOT is teh hot :!:
-
I always thought it was nice to annouce that it is not a beauty contest.
-
I think the "not a beauty contest" is fine too.
Normally doesn't occur to me.... it's the list of opposites, combined with "ladies of all shapes & sizes"....
Comment back was to Jiperly, not Ian & Manwich. Maybe Jiperly was offended over a potential offense to shriners, or maybe he's a dork.
-
Well, it's basically a euphamism for "fat and ugly" but you know...I don't really pay much attention to it anymore. Because well, I never saw the point of making fun of a fat person for being fat. Newsflash: THEY KNOW THEY'RE FAT. But I guess I can see where Jiperly was coming from with that post, easily.
-
I think you look nice in your shrine picture Lindsey.
-
Well thank you, love. :D
On a side note, I keep wondering how he got the word "BURN" to look like that. Quite obnoxious. :P
-
But it isn't a beauty contest.
But if you're hot you get bonus points! :P
Now to watch the karmna meter drop like a plane flown by JFK jr.

Isn't your karma immune to slapping, what with the groovy swirling colors in your sig?
-
or maybe he's a dork.
The Latter.
Honestly, I didn't find this website because of the female listeners. And if I did find it because of the Shrine of Female Listeners, I wouldn't have taken the message as seriously. I mean, its just chicks. If I was looking for pictures of chicks, thats why I have porno in my bookmarks- I'm here for the intelligent debate and analyses.
I can see the purpose for the Shrine- to promote females to show up at the forum- but its still kinda lame
-

Ooh, im sorry, the answer we were going for was John Denver... John Denver. Good try though. I'll take worst time at a theater for 100 Alex.
-
its lame alright
-
Actually, I think when you put a bunch of females together on a webpage, regardless of your intentions, it becomes a beauty contest. If only between the actual females, and having nothing to do with the original concept. I'm sure other girls on the shrine have noticed the caliber of another one's looks. I know I think to myself "Wow, she's really pretty" when a new one goes up sometimes, or vice versa.
-
I can understand what you're saying. Personally I enjoy looking at the creative ways the ladies validate themselves.
-
I still have yet to come up with my creative way. I wish I could convince Ian to put up another picture in the meantime. Maybe you can help me with that. :P
I've been meaning to ask you how you got the show's logo from your computer screen to a shirt, though. Obviously I'm ignorant of shirt making procedures. I suck.

John Denver was the co-pilot.

You're on to my swirling vortex of groovy DOOM!

Lindsey -
You're right about women judging about the pics - you said it much better than I did yesterday. I was being snarky, because I tell people I know about the show, the BBS, etc. I tell them it's a show for anybody. Looking at the website, there are many hot/pretty/cute 18-25 year olds. If a 35-ish mom, or a woman in her 40's (and up) feels comfortable enough about the show to let the world know she listens, that kind of backs up that FTL is a show for everyone.
Comments like Jiperly's might give a girl 2nd thoughts, and felt like slapping him for it. But I chose to use words (not necessarily the right ones) instead of a karma bitchslap, to be more upfront about it.

Well I doubt it's meant to be a beauty contest. Ian probably says this so "less attractive" ladies would gain the courage to put their pictures up.
The fact is most members of the Shrine are quite attractive. Either younger libertarian females are more attractive than other ladies, or thus far only the attractive ladies have bothered to sign up.

It's probably the latter, in which case Ian's campaign is not necessarily successful.
-
more women should pose with guns.
-
Well, I would if I had one, I suppose. I'm still accepting creative ideas for validation, if anyone wants to help.

Do a mug shot.
Fuck you Wes.
-

It shouldn't be. If Ian is serious in attracting more female listeners, then why would looks matter in that regard?
-
Well, I'd say in general people are more...uhh...like, deterred by a page full of ugly women. I'm trying to find the words to describe it, but it's not working. Maybe you'll just get what I'm trying to say. But yeah, I suppose a page full of hot girls would attract more people to listen for some odd reason. I don't know why, but people like things that are pleasing to the eye.

It was pretty easy :) I blew up the logo and printed it on special iron-on paper. I have found a kind that works pretty well. You can buy cheap plain shirts in every color at The Rag Shop.

Maybe so, but it can't just be attractive women that listen to talk radio.
Or isn't the purpose of the Shrine to promote female listenership, as Ian says?
-
Well, that's the purpose of it, but who the Hell would want to look at a bunch of ugly women? :P
-
Well, I would if I had one, I suppose. I'm still accepting creative ideas for validation, if anyone wants to help.
If you lived closer I would loan you mine.
write FLT on your ass and moon the camera or how about a FTL tattoo.
get a can of spraypaint and paint FTL on the side of a police cruiser.
how about take a picture wearing nothing but a gadsden flag.
decorate a cake with FTL
Write FTL on a grapefruit and then stuff the whole thing in your mouth.
-
What do you like to do Lindsey?
Well, I would if I had one, I suppose. I'm still accepting creative ideas for validation, if anyone wants to help.

Nice! 8)
-
I like it, but unfortunately we have really anal cops in this area. Too bad I don't have the balls for it...
-
I concur. I'd love to see it done, but don't have the balls myself!
I was saying nice to the idea, not suggesting you actually do it. :P

I know, but it would be a Hell of a lot nicer if it were to happen.
There should totally be an FTLmobile
-
Like the Batmobile?

HOTTIE!!! :D

Like the Batmobile?
Precisely. Ian's house it the Batcave, etc.

My dorm has a batphone...
-
Hmm... what is a batphone?
-
Hmm... what is a batphone?
It's a phone in the hall that's a one digit switch from the student health hotline. And it has the Batman signal painted around it.

Evidence of a crime posted on the internet would be a bad idea.
-
But no one's going to do it, so it's not really evidence of a crime...
-
That's if they were going to do it.
Dumbass.
-
Or isn't the purpose of the Shrine to promote female listenership, as Ian says?
Such confusion about the Shrine when there is a FAQ sitting right here in this forum!
The purpose of the Shrine is twofold:
1. To draw traffic to the website.
2. To prove that women listen.
Manwich originated the "it's not a beauty contest" line, and I think it's a good line because it encourages the less-than-beautiful to submit their pictures as well.
-
The fact is most members of the Shrine are quite attractive. Either younger libertarian females are more attractive than other ladies, or thus far only the attractive ladies have bothered to sign up.
Interesting observation.

Yeah but I think the original post was citing the "encourages, etc." fact as possibly being an implied insult to some people who are obviously entirely too sensitive to exist.
-
and I think it's a good line because it encourages the less-than-beautiful to submit their pictures as well.
Which they haven't done, thus far!

Take another good look...not everyone on there is attractive. And no, for those of who you think this is a self-pity party, I'm talking about OTHER people being ugly.

But, they all have great personalities.
-
I wouldn't do anyone on the shriners page.
-
Yeah that's a filthy, dirty, skank lie.
-
Who are you responding to?
-
Well originally it was you, but now that I think of it...both of you. :P
-
Prove it.
-
If only I had the stomach to keep your sexual solicitations recorded somehow. :?

I like that one. :D
I want to know why female callers get to be on the air before men. A person with something interesting to say should be first.
-
Because it's Ian's show and that's what he decided. In the beginning, it was to be made clear that women listen to this show, hence the Shrine in the first place, and the "ladies first" attitude only helps attract them I suppose, because they feel like they're getting special treatment. Unless the lady is a cynic, of course.

How do you know if someone is intersting before they speak?

This .gif is hilarious!
Have you seen the one were the kid has guns and sunglasses with the Matrix background?
-
Agreed. I got a good chuckle out of BJ's picture.

I've seen so many permutations of it that it annoys me.

Dance dance revolution!
-
I've never played, but I just don't have that coordination. Plus, it would be disturbing to watch me try.
-
Ha, I used to play it in my teens.

Okay, here's what you do. Late at night, you visit a fairly popular business in your town that also happens to be closed (unless you're pretty stealthy). You spray paint as big as you can freetalklive.com. Then photograph it (obviously). So now you have your validation. Also, if you're lucky, the local news will report it and give FTL free advertising. You can send Ian a news clipping.
Seriously though, I don't suggest this. Not only would you be committing a crime, but you'll be offering the one website were proof of who committed the crime (you) could be found. More importantly, it vandalism of someone else's property, and I'm against that.
My real suggestion. Print up fliers promoting FTL a put them up in your town. Take a picture of yourself standing next to one of the fliers you've put up. Like on a telephone pole.
-
I like it, but unfortunately we have really anal cops in this area. Too bad I don't have the balls for it...
As opposed to cops who have no problem with you vandalizing their cruisers?

Okay, really anal cops meaning the kind that don't bother to clock you on radar before they pull you over for speeding. Illegal? Yes. Do they care? No.
