What do you think of Ruger firearms?
« on: November 13, 2011, 07:42:30 PM »

Let me start with the fact I own a single Ruger product. A Mark III pistol.

That being said the company has never heard a government edict that they have not enthusiastically implemented.  To top it all off they are supporting the NRA. The gun organization most likely to compromise your gun rights. There are other gun rights organizations that do not have the track record of selling the American public out.

I was not happy to hear them get exposure on a freedom oriented show.

Just my 2 cents worth. What do you think?

FYI for bolt guns you should look at Savage the 100 and the Stevens or Axis/Edge  knock off many many advantage over any other manufacturer.

I have never owned or used or saw used a Ruger that wasn't, IMHO, a piece of shit.

The Mark series of pistols have a great reputation. They are a bit difficult too take apart though and you need a gun smith to change a barrel on one. That said I do not like what the company stands for these days.

I love Ruger firearms.  And the NRA is half decent, just because they are not libertarian purists like the GOA or JPFO doesn't mean they aren't worth supporting.

I own a newer Mini-14 that can be pretty picky about ammo. It tends to jam a lot on .223s but will usually blow through 556 with no problem.

I feel that their support of FTL negates their support of the NRA.

Keep in mind that aside from their shady lobbying wing, the NRA is far and away the best source of firearm safety information and training. Plus, their indoor range is freaking PIMP.

As far as I know, there is still a Ruger factory north of Keene on Route 10 near Newport, NH.  Plus, the company has an ad on FTL.  It's like Dave Ridley always talks about, Win-Win.

At one time I owned a Ruger Security-6 .357 magnum revolver.

I thought it was just fine, but then, revolvers are less prone to problems.

Hi John, welcome to the board.

I never loved Ruger firearms. My next few purchases will probably revolve around Czech guns anyways.
