I have purchased a 20W FM transmitter that I received Monday (24 November).
I tried it out with the antennae sitting inside the house, and I was able to get a little over a 2 mile radius with clear reception. I plan to put it on a pole outside on the house. I hope I can get 5 miles.
I was trying to find an easy way to calculate population within a specified radius, but didn't see anything. But I did find the site of a developer who has been planning a nearby retail project that has the following figures:
2007 Estimated Population
1 mile radius: 7,087
3 mile radius: 109,688
5mile radius: 242,441
I will be about 3 miles from the above mention point. I would guess that the density surrounding me isn't too much different.
I'll probably be running recorded material until I can automate the station. I can't baby sit it 24 hours a day, every day.
