New Apple Store - No different than http://store.steampowered.com/

Steam revolutionized game delivery... Who wants to drive to damned GameStop to buy computer games when you can download them in 5-10 minutes? Likewise, do you really want to drive to an Apple store to buy apple software?

Sure - Apple might not put porn apps in it's app store, just like it doesn't stock them on the shelves in its stores, but that doesn't mean you can't install them....

Wish I could have cleared that up on air, but there just wasn't time.

I've been using steam since I got Half Life. But the fatal flaw in Steam is if you go somewhere without internet Steam powered games dont work (I havent used it in awhile, it may have changed).

Oh yeah, and to suggest that iPod suck for MP3s... That's going to give a lot of people listening on their ipods a great big belly laugh... cuz it's ridiculous. The major selling point for apple is ease of use, it's the reason my 60 year old technologically inept MOTHER has an ipod shuffle and an ipad. It's the reason why the iPhone was the first smartphone I bought...

I'm by no means an Apple fanboy (I'm probably a google fanboy) and the other day I helped a client transfer all his e-mail (several years) worth to a shiny new google account and I got to help him set up a VERY sexy Droid X. (that's a gorgeous peice of hardware and I think it's the PERFECT size)

If, by the time I am ready to switch phones Droid has something comparable to iMovie - I will switch to Android. (Otherwise I may just dual boot my phone - http://lifehacker.com/5693309/how-to-install-android-on-an-iphone-in-six-easy-steps )

iTunes is a godawful, slow, resource pig that is probably the most poorly designed apple product but its really not much different from using Juice, or DoubleTwist, or some random proprietary software by some offbrand MP# player manufacturer like iRiver or Archos...  In fact, it would be even silly to deny that big boys in the smartphone and PDA game like Palm and RIM (Blackberry) aren't being just fucking beaten to death like a redheaded stepchild because of their media player capability shortcomings...

Yeah.. uhm... That's never been true even. Yeah, you can't play Half Life ONLINE if you have no internet, but the single player version... It works without internet. Steam is a delivery system to INSTALL games, not play them.

www.OnLive.com - THAT's a streaming gaming service that requires a good connection and a good computer.

I stand corrected - sort of. Software Developer UBISOFT utilizes a form of DRM that connects THROUGH steam to their servers to authenticate you, so to play UBIsoft games like Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia... yeah, you need to be online - *cough* fuck you ubisoft *cough*

That has nothing to do with steam really though, I'm sure that DRM is also part of games purchased from UBISoft through other means as well...

Interesting. I used to be a big PC gamer but now that I have only a crappy laptop I stick to games like Minecraft. I sometimes buy better games (like Assassins Creed) but I cannot even play them since my specs are so poor.
