Mardi Gras vs. Voting
« on: January 21, 2008, 11:46:34 PM »

Talk about confusion. Alabama has now moved to Super Tuesday. However, at least two counties (mine included) have two days to vote because of Mardi Gras. The issue has been debated in our local paper.

Voting was originally sceduled during Mardi Gras. There was an issue of traffic. Then there were complaints that voting during Mardi Gras was racist (because more blacks attend Mardi Gras--) So the issue was settled...there are now two days to vote. You can vote either on Jan. 30th or Super Tuesday.

I am just curious what other solutions there could have been. Any ideas? Mardi Gras is an official holiday here. Banks, schools, and most businesses are closed. Downtown is fenced off.

Signed,
Mobilian
(home of the original Mardi Gras--not New Orleans!!)
